Need help with my new cold air intake

I was heading to work on 495 in the left lane doing about 70.. I see a little commotion up ahead and then this big, american cat-back exhaust comes flying through the air AT MY CAR! I test my ABS and SMACK.. right in the kisser. It hit and bounced back up in the air, still in front of me, so I'm on the brakes again trying not to stop underneath the damn thing as it falls back down.

Thankfully it didn't punch the intercooler, or any other body panels... but this is twice in two weeks.. A softball sized rock punched my windshield the other week...

So does anyone have a Vintage Red stock bumper they'd like to sell me? Or maybe a good looking aftermartet one? Preferably something that's allready painted.. I just dumped a bunch of cash into this car.. otherwise I'd go get a mazdaspeed front end..

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Thanks..

Thanks.. I think if I hold out, I can probably find a decent red one.. I'd like to keep it simple for now and just bolt one on... although it would give me a chance to get my hood repained.

Do you have compreshensive insurance? If so, it will cover flying projectiles, and by law it cannot increase your rates or drop you because of it.

Yea, that's definitely something I would be talking to the insurance company about. You should at least talk to them and see what they'll do.

You may be able to get it all fixed with only paying your deductible.

Yeah, I thought about that.. It's a $500 deductable, and I figured a good used bumper skin would only set me back a few hundred out of my pocket.. if it did more damage, I'd definitely be calling them, but on only really needs the front bumper. And I doubt my insurance would pay for an aftermarket bumper & lights & what not.. See my dilemma?

Well, the estimate the insurance company will use will be an exact replacement front, including painting. So, you can use however much of that money towards whatever you want to use.

Of course, if your lights aren't damaged, they won't pay for new ones.

I'm not sure how much a front is from Mazda, but I'm sure knowing Mazda it will be quite pricey which could work out in your favor.

Hmm. Interesting. I have never been one to take advantage... but since the state requires me to have insurance, I guess they can't bitch when I use it. I'll check into it.

Thanks, twins.

I actually saw that yesterday. And it IS right up the road.. It looks like it's got a big old scratch or something on it, though.. If I have to go to the trouble to have something painted, I'll end up painting something better than a stock bumper..

did you at least go back and keep the exhaust?

I have a VR front bumper that I might be willing to part with..but I'm all the way on the other side of the country.

****, Rikki.. I grew up in Clinton.. over off of Dangerfield, by the Naval Station... Yeah, we should hook up.. maybe wait until I get my clutch in, though.. Think I found a local guy I trust to schlep it in.

and yeah, you don't see me much around here.. I lurk around here mostly.. there's a lot of good info in here if you can wade through all of the crap.. so I do my part trying to keep the crap to a minimum.
