hey fellas im stuck again

i tried starting the cym today and wont fire

i found out that a blue plug was not connected from the engine harness to the car

i came to find out that the harness (JDM) from the motor is a bigger plug than the car's blue plug

but everything else fit ( 4 yellow plugs and white plug)

heres a pics



can anyone tell me if i can use an daptor to still use this jdm harness???

any help would be appreiciated

Cut off the plug on the US harness and wire it to the Jap harness. All the wires should be the same colors.

 

yup just bridge it... use male female connectors for later ease of use.

 

and get a new ECU... damn thats dirty... coudl the engine harness be an auto harness and the dash harness be for a manual?

Looks like the connectors could, in theory, plug into each other with a little extra room on one side. Do the wire colors all line up?

Which plug has the extra pins - the US dash harness or the JDM engine harness?

all wire are same color , but that oe extra wire i dont know about

There is no male harness. You cut the plug off the US harness that will plug into the ECU and soldier it on to the JDM harness. All the wires are the same except 1 extra. Its easy as that.

there is more than just one wire.

I did this about 2 months ago

one of my pop up headlights wouldn't function properly......... it was the engine wiring harness.....

check all the colors there are very subtle differences but are some. Brown might give you some trouble i think there are two of them and is for the fuel temp and will throw a code.

anyway...... just break out the wiring diagrams.

i used my old us blue connector too.

I don't think there are any extras. Maybe one brown (think there are two). I just remember that brown had to be connected to a different connector or something. It annoyed me b/c there are two of them. I had to check the continuity of the fuel temp to find out which one it was........

If your doing a non-seq now is a good time to wiring in the resistors. If you reloomed the harness you might have noticed all the sensors have the same color of the us version which makes it much easier.

If you look at the blue ones and compare i think the jspec have more empty slots. That's why you really dont have "extra" wires.

not just the blue connector is different so check the other plugs to make sure they match with the fsm.

beware the brown wire....... LOL

I apologize for bringing back an almost two year old thread, but my engine swap is currently at this current junction. Everything is all buttoned up except for this incompatibility issue with the blue colored body harness clips (10 pins for the US one) and (12 pins for the JDM one).

This thread is really the only one that best describes exactly what i'm looking at, whereas there are a few others that skate around the very same issue. Obviously rotorboy661 got it fired up one way or another, but I would like a little more clarification instead of trial and error if possible.

I fully plan on re-terminating one of the clips to match the other, however I only have the US spec wiring diagram. The one thing that isn't clear is the identification of the two extra "brown" wires? I haven't had a chance to make it down to my friend's shop so I cannot verify the number and color of the "extra wires". One poster mentioned there are no extra wires and a few others mentioned there are two extra.

If someone could clarify where these (two?) elusive (brown?) wires originate from and if it is ok to leave them free and clear and tape them off or what not. I'm hoping to fire it up this Sat. so I would be very very grateful to anyone who could shed some more light on this!

Other than that, a JDM engine (same series) swap is pretty straightforward, no real issues other than this incompatible male to female wire harness plug.

Here's how I'd tackle it -

REAL easy way to get a connector for the US harness. Find a spare fan recall module. Here's one on Ebay so you can see the pic -

It plugs in between the ECU and body harnesses with the blue and white connector. I'd get a spare one (they should be a dime a dozen used) and pull the pins out of the blue connector that you need. Pull the pins out of the JDM harness blue connector, and use the new connector. Super clean and good to go.

Thanks for the reply Dale! Yeah that's pretty much what I planned on doing, I was just hoping to get some clarification on the 10 wires (US) vs 12 wires (JDM) issue if there is even one. I'm guessing there shouldn't be one, otherwise I think more people would be posting about this issue. But if anyone has further insight on that, please post what you know.

 

Without a JDM shop manual, it's hard to say what those extra wires are for. But, if the US car doesn't need 'em, don't sweat 'em.

Just take your time and carefully swap the connector out - make sure you get everything in the right position, and double-check that you're getting the wires matched up right. Slipping up here could result in some MAJOR problems, in theory.

While I was searching the forum I did come across a member (I forgot who) that blew his engine because he re-wired his engine harness and crossed one of his sensor wires with another. So yeah, I am definitely going to take my time to check, re-check, and check it all over again when I re-terminate the ends.

My fd have jdm harness everything works but I am curious what this 2 wires do.
