NJ Need help installing innovate wideband LC-1

I would like to know where and how you guys set up your wideband..

I thought it would be a good idea to install the controller inside the car.. Is that possible?

Where do you ground...? how does the gauge connect..?

Any help would be appreciated

You bought this brand new? Which gauge did you get? Is it the DB gauge or the XD-16? The XD-16 has a calibration button on it

The controller is designed to be mounted outside. I also wanted to mount inside but the cable length was too short and Innovate would not recommend extending the wires.

on my LC-1 I mounted the controller in the car, but the bung for the wide band was 2' from the turbo. I still had accurate readings. However I hated the unit. Its always a grounding problem according to them, which is utter rubbish. I was glad when it finally died.

Don't hate, I got the LC1 inside the car. the bung for me was about 2-3ft from the turbo as well, I ran the line up the tranny tunnel and beside the shifter, the LC1 sits under the center console and it feeds up through the dash to gauge pod (XC16) in a guage pod on the dash. It was a tight squeeze for the thickness of the LC-1 under the center console. And be careful how you manage the wiring to it doesn't get caught on the drive shaft, haha.

Originally it was mounted outside the just above the Down pipe, mounted on the firewall. I went through 3 LC1s. I think the heat was cooking the units. So my last one I put inside...already has outlasted the other units combined.

;p

4+ years with mine and no issues...

That said, it is picky on the grounding.

Most of the questions you asked are answered in the install guide. If you do not have it, it may be downloaded on their website for free.

I have the XD16 gauge and it is mounted in the driver side A pillar. My controller is mounted by my transmission with the wires running up through the shifter and into the dash under the center console. Bung is on my downpipe just before the midpipe flange. Wires are grounded as per the instructions at a single point that is behind my ecu (drilled a pilot hole, sanded the area to create a good connection uninhibited by paint and then used a self-tapping screw to tightly secure).

The big keys with the innovate system is you need a ground point that will not get noise from anything else (no other grounds close) and a clean 12v power source. Otherwise you will have inaccurate readings and grounding errors.

Im not sure if its DB gauge or the XD-16. I got it brand new but its not in front of me now. It does have the calibration button that I have to wire in. the guage is the g3 style.

I wanted to use a power source from the fuse box... with this thing I bought from pep boys called add a fuse. But no sure if the wires will reach all around the car.

So do you drill a hole by the shifter threw the tranny tunnel fror the sensor?

And do you make a new ground to the frame by the ecu...?

I have the manual but I guess Its to complicated for my pea brain.

No, you do not need to drill a hole near the shifter. Just unbolt the cover, notch the rubber some and run the wire in that area. It is already a massive hole for the shifter to connect to the tranny...

To ground anything it simply involves connecting a ground wire to a ground source (frame, or body). Drill a small pilot hole, sand the paint off where the wire lug will touch, and screw the wire lug to the frame or body of the car.

Innovate states it is best to have all the grounds on the same lug (little wire ends with a circle), or if this is not possible all the lugs to the same source as close as possible. So, all on say the body of the car, as close as possible if not on the same lug.

I am not trying to insult anyone, but make this as easily understandable as I can. It does not seem like you have done much wiring before.

Not disagreeing on bit here, but my LC-1 as well as several others I have seen are finicky on this. I used several wideband's and Innovate is by far the most finicky and not user friendly. If you try to contact them they will tell you its your grounds. How hard is it to ground a wire??? I can build a motor, wire a car, make a map from scratch, but I cannot ground a wideband? PLease.

Like I said good luck to the OP but my money will never go to them again if I have any say.

Reviving this thread : I am about to install my Innovate Wide band as well. I plan on running it down the Tranny tunnel as well.

oo7arkman (or anyone else who may know) -
is the small notch in the boot done from inside the car so that I can feed the wires down from inside the car? If so that makes running my ground and 12v source much easier.

I drilled through my floor board near the footwell on the passenger side and ran the cables through there. I actually did it by mistake, but it worked out fine and it made it so much easier to run all the wiring. I wrapped the controller in some heat resistant material and zip tied it to the EGR tube from the cat.

I drilled a hole in the side of the tranny hump right behind the small plastic panel. This gives me easy access. Also, the heater ground is supposed to be mounted separate from the signal ground. This is information direct from innovative engineers.

What's the heater ground that's not mentioned in the manual, and it says all ground should be connected together?

I have never had a problem with mine with separated heater ground based on advice from the Innovate forum. May be a new unit thing though.

I just installed mine a few days ago and all documentation included in the package indicated all the grounds to be together so which is it? seems to be working fine as is.
