Need help on FD thats been sitting for 6 years..
Just picked it up and it needs a bit of help... The guy I got if from said the last time he started the car was 4 years ago and it ran fine. Towed it to my my house a good 200 miles away and started working on it.. Flushed the coolant, changed oil and filter, replaced plugs, battery and looked over things. The fuel gauge wouldnt move so I figured great there shouldnt be bad gas in there in which the last owner said it ran out. I put like 5 gallons in and cranked the motor, she started right up with a bunch of smoke but cleared up after letting it idle for a while. Everything seems to be working fine accept the fuel gauge! I notice the needle about 3/8 below the E line so I shut the car down immediately. Come to find out the car already had gas in it and now I'm afraid I might have damaged the motor . I pull the fuel filter to replace it and notice brownish fuel comming out of it. I installed the new filter but now need to get the rest of the fuel out of the tank.. What is the easiest way of doing this?
Its a 93 touring with 25k miles on the motor and chassis. Didnt come with a bumper, headliner and needs airbag. Trying to bring her back alive!

Why not use the fuel pump to pump it out. You can jump the fuel pump on in the diagnostics box on the drivers side fender. Either put the old fuel filter on and hook a hose up and run it into a bucket or put an extension on the line that went to the filter and pump it out. You'll need to get some good fuel through it as soon as you can.

There's a plug on the bottom of the tank. I'd drain the tank add a gallon of denatured alcohol and shake to car around the best i could and drain the tank again. (that will help suck up water in the tank) Fill the tank with premium fuel and add about 25oz of a good quality 2 stroke oil.. plan on replacing the filter again in a few hundred miles. Probably a good idea to change all the fluids such as the dif, trans, and flush the brake fluid. Getting to the fuel sender is fairly easy, pull the trunk liner and you'll see a plate covering the pump/ sender cover.
Sounds like quite a find. What did you pay for it, if you dont mind me asking?

I'd siphon as much as possible out of the tank, then disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail and very carefully get rid of the rest of the fuel by turning on the key and letting the fuel pump scavenge out the bad gas. Then put about a quart of good gas mixed with a small bottle of MARVEL MYSTERY OIL in the tank and let the fuel pump expel that. Then reconnect everything and fill 'er up with some good premium, add another small bottle of MARVEL to the tank start her back up.
It goes without preaching to be EXTREMELY careful when pumping raw gas out into a container or something, keep a fire extinguisher handy and be SMART!

the fuel pump will not suck all the gas out. either find the fuel drain plus or open up the fuel tank via the fuel pump area and double check to see if its clean in there

If it was me, I wouldn't want to run that nasty fuel through my pump and new filter.

I did notice a bolt on the bottom of the tank but wanted to be sure. I tested the pump also, had a friend jump the two connectors in the diag box while I had pulled the two lines (send and return I think) on the pump and watched it poor out. Is this the way I want to drain it by letting the pump empty it into a bucket?
About the Marvel Mystery oil! Will this be alright putting oil in the fuel tank?
Gadd, I picked the car up for three thousand and another four hundred getting it home..

Thanks guys I'll try removing the drain plug at bottom of tank soon as it stops raining here, add premium gas along with the Mystery oil (but how much to how many gallons?). I'll let it idle thru the gas and than replace the fuel filter again.
I'll try to get some pics up later so yous can see the condition they left in it... It wasnt too bad and is only from sitting so long..
question.. how would/should I dispose of old fuel?

wow, good find and good luck with that. Deff sounds like a bad ground with your fuel gauge (easy fix), its right where the fuel pump is. As far as what do do with your old fuel... Around here you can take a jug of used oil or old fuel to Advance Auto and they'll get rid of it for you for free.

I'm in the same boat.
I felt Deja vu when I read this post and saw your pics...
I bought this 1994 Montego Blue with 24,000 original miles from the first owner for $2000. She has sat for 4 years, last inspected in early 2001. It has a bad motor: one rotor barfed its Apex seals.
I'm still deciding what avenue of repair to take..rebuild, used motor, or reman.
How much did you get your FD for?

Just kidding. That is a helluva deal!! The interior cleaned up real nice. Look foward to seeing the finished product. Hope there's no rice involved.

Wow! You really fixed her up pretty good! So what happened to it? It *looks* like the airbag had deployed? And had it already been repainted once? Overall the car seems to be in excellent shape, congrats on your find.

Yes the car was hit pretty good in the front and spun out and smacked the rear wheel.. She had it at a body shop for a while getting it fixed and painted but had to get it out of there before they were finished putting it back together (went out of business I think). There was no bumper, shift ****, most interior peices not put together including door moldings and trims.. Most of the parts were already in the car but needed putting together. Also had a spare stock rim(five star) in a box along with two used rear wheel bearings which they must of replaced when car went to mazda for the 4 wheel alignement. One of the receipts I was given with the car shows work being done at mazda for the 4 wheel alignement, two new rims, wheel bearings and rear tire rod (I think) which costed $2,600. All the old/bad parts were included in the car. Car was crashed in 97 in Maryland carfax showed and was purchased a year later by the people I bought it from. Sat in the body shop for 2 years, was removed and has been sitting since hence the low miles.
I have a few parts that im not sure where they go. I'll take picture of them and maybe you guys can help me out...
I still need an Airbag, Headliner, CD Player (CD part doesnt work) and the front Coolant and wiper fluid resivoir tanks cause they are brittle and have little cracks in it but doesnt leak.
