I would still take it to a rotary mechanic and get it compression tested, a dealership if you have to... It doesn't sound like the owner is the most competent person in the world and could have A) mis-read the compression tests, B) Somehow done them wrong, C) lied to you...
Just for your own peace of mind, an extra $150 now is better than a potential $3000+ later...
