need help buying an rx7
need help buying an rx7
im not exactly new to rx7's. i know what mods i want and of the sort. my main problem is actually finding a decent one now. what do i look for when buying one. what are main problems with them. hidden things that the new buyer(ME) should look for. everything and anything please. i have finally saved up enough for one of these beautiful creatures that are no more.

If you find an RX-7 that looks good, here's what I would do.
1. Go take a look at the car. Take a look in the front and sides in the areas where the body panels line up. See if you see anything out of the ordinary, something not lining up correctly. It helps to see if the car has been wrecked before.
2. Try to take a look at the car as early as possible in the morning. Check the first start up of the car, see if there is smoke coming from the exhaust at start up and check to make sure it's not a coolant smell. Some smoke at startup can be a normal thing on colder days or if the car hasn't been used in a while, but it should NOT smell like coolant.
3. Move the car and then check to see where it was parked. Check the ground to see if anything has been leaking from the car.
4. Take it to a shop that can check the car over and give it a compression test.
5. Make sure to run a CARFAX on it.
Personally, I would look for an RX-7 with either a freshly rebuilt engine or one with a blown engine and just plan on having it rebuilt. Either way, you'll know exactly what you have and there shouldn't be too many surprises.
Other things to think about are even if you find one with a newly rebuilt engine but high miles on the car would be the suspension. Even though they may have only put 2000-3000 miles on a new engine, the rest of the car will have the 120,000 or whatever the miles may be.

and good luck!
