No, such a vibration is not normal. The RX-7 and its rotary engine is known for being super-smooth. It's hard to say what's causing it without driving the car. If I were you, I'd look at another car, if only for comparison purposes.

your tranny would grind going into that gear if it was a synchro. i don't see how a synchro prob would cause the whole car to vibrate
