In need of an explanation

First of all I am very new to the rotary scene and I want to get "well" educated on my car. When people mention the word "Tune my car" what exactly are they referring to. My car has a few mods, but no pfc. I would like to know what they do when a rotary shop tunes your car? Please explain?

tuning is basically makin your car run at the right boost levels with the right a/f ratios so that way you dont blow your car up. Basically making you car run smooth as silk.

You cant just dump a bunch of mods and run the car that way or you will blow your motor up,

I'm sure somebody will have a more detailed explanation...

As far as I know about it, you take your car in to a tuning shop that has a dyno, and they tune your a/f ratio and timing with it, for maximum power and make sure you arent running too lean. Basically they change the fuel maps for your car....

both air and fuel are needed in the combustion chamber to get the right type of pop. If you run to rich then not enough of the fuel is burning off because there isnt enough air in the mix so running really rich can lead to 'bogging'. If there is too much air in the mix and not enough fuel then this can lead to too much of an explosion in your chamber and cause what is refered to as 'detonation'. Basically your engine houses all of these little explosions but can only tolerate so big of one. And since a rotary has alot of seals in it, they are usually the weak point when there is too big of a bang. So, by tuning your car properly with the right 'map' (the pattern of fuel injection to air intake) you can avoid either situation. This is just my understanding of it, I am in no way an expert. Anyone who is, please feel free to correct or fill in any gaps.
