Exclamation Need Advice from RX-7 guru's

I have researched rx-7s for over 2 years and have never bought one. The main reasons really consisting of the pure intimidation that I use to recieve from these fine works of art.

Now I think it's time, but I don't have the money..

I found this one on the 'list'. Everything on the left side of the engine has been burned from what seems to be an oil leak. And he is unsure if the turbos were damaged, but more than likely it is.

The questions I have to you guys is:

Is it worth it?

How much would you pay?

How much would it cost to get fixed? ( ball park figure )

And anything else you may add to help aid me in this venture, I would appreciate it greatly.

Another side story, and what really hits me hard:
I went out with my best friend one night last week, drinking having fun, hollarin at the ladies- typical guys night out ya know.
I told him about this dream I had. A dream that would send me to hell, only because I would probably put this one thing before everything else imaginable. This one thing was the remarkable RX-7.

The next day he goes out and buys one.

I'm happy for him but damn, ya know... I have wet dreams about this f*cking car, and I get the shaft...

Oh well....Just had to vent...

....preciate the time....

Jesus...how much does he want??? You can find FDs w/blown motors but otherwise in good shape for ~8k.

Btw, if you can't afford a 3rd gen now, you prolly can't afford owning one. The costs of ownership don't stop with the purchase price. The "mod addiction" will get you everytime...I bought my R1 stock 3 yrs ago, and check out my sig to see where I'm at now...

I wasn't getting to serious with the idea.

It was just a thought of being able to fix something up myself...Kind of like the before and after stories. Something I can look at and say that I did.

It does look reeeeeeeeeeeeeeal bad, doesn't it?!?

I just got through talking with the guy,

"Assuming the engine and turbos are good the least it will need is all of the intake, one new tire, new bumper, hood the right front of the body and paint job."

With the damage, he quoted 4 to 6k...That's to much if you ask me...He doesn't really even know the extensiveness of the damage.

And you are right about the blown engine rx-7's...I'd rather have one of those than that one. Atleast you know it's one thing instead of a multiple amount of damage.

Just a thought....

Thanks for your opinions guys...

damn, thats a pretty fucked up rex, but if you were to get it for like 2-3k, you could get it completely fixed, mod it somewhat, and still be under market value for the car. It all depends on how much time you want to spend doing it, and who you get to fix it. To me, it would be worth getting the car if I had the money, because I have spare time to get it fixed, but your case could be different. If you need it for a daily driver right now, don't buy it, if you have a car that you can drive while that one is in the shop, go for it. It'll take a couple of months to fix it, but you'll have a really sweet RX7 when its all said and done.

dude it looks like the fire messed up the frame on that thing, if the frame is messed up, or if there is any rust i wouldn't buy it. FD's are expensive. A new mana motor will cost you between $2500-$3000 ( i heard they recently raised the price), new turbos cost $3100 and that is still not including the labor from fire damage, and how many vacuum hoses are screwed up either, so it'll cost a handful to mess with that car unless you are a good mechanic and cna do it yourself.

If you are seriously into projects, then this is is something worthwile to consider. I mean, it WILL keep you busy for a while!

It wouldn't be the first time someone saved an FD from a fire. You just have to have the time and dedication it needs.

Unhappy

I certainly have the time, and hopefully enough experience required for the task...

I offered him 3.5K if he would have it towed. There was a lot of damage done to the poor thing.. It looks like it had to have happened or a long period of time for the tire to actually melt on that side- possibly over night....

I don't mind the labor or the money, I just wanted to save the damn thing from the junk yard....When it comes to FDs or stray animals I just get like that...=)

But the story has ended on this note.....He was hoping that the insurance company wouldn't take it so he could sell it or sell all of the good aftermarket parts that was left; and any other thing he could scrap off of it. But I recieved the e-mail today that the insurance company did in fact take it and the only thing he could keep was the HKS exhaust, a brand new unorthodox underdrive and power steering pulley.

So, still I search for my dream car....Until then, it will stay in my dreams....

Thanks for all the input/opinions guys....

Until next time...=)
