Thanks for takin the time to read this. Took my engine apart sat. Noticed a chip in the coolant jacket of my housing. Is there any reason this could be a problem down the road? Also what could be the cause of this? Thank you again. Will post pics ASAP

Look into a seal saver set idk if they do sets for the outer seal

 

I don't know if this is a bad suggestion but is it able to be welded?

 

The obvious answer is, it's trashed. Time for a new one.

But...

What's the rest of the housing look like? If it's in decent shape, why not try to save money, right? Worst that's going to happen is it still leaks and you have to replace it... just use it as the rear so you only have to pull apart half the engine.

It's metal, ain't it?! I would probably keep heat off it. If it warps you might not be able to get it to seal up again. Clean it up with a dremel and JB Weld it.

If it was on the inside edge, I'd say no way but the outside you might be able to get away with it.

I have an engine pooling coolant on top of the engine at the joint between the rear housing, intermediate plate and lower intake manifold I have a sneaking suspicion mine looks a lot worse then yours.

Given that coolant pressure is only going to push in the opposite direction, I would not worry about it if the rest of the iron is fine. I can't tell for sure but it looks like the inner wall still has some structure to it.

Ok. Thanks guys. I just want to be sure. This is my first rebuild. The rest of the housing appears to be solid. Going to clean it and inspect it this weekend.
