n00bie: what do you think about this rx7?

im supposed to check out a 93 rex tuesday. im new to the rx7 scene, i wanted your input on the car before i make any deals. i have the following information on the car:
its a 93 red w/black int auto Toruing Ed RX7
14K miles on stock twins(with receipts from Mazda dealer)
engine will have 0 miles on it(rebuild finished monday)
full veilside body kits & wing
tanabe r madilion catback exhaust
hks downpipe
racing beat midpipe
spi boost gauge
auto meter air/fuel ratio gauge
greedy pully kits
intake
strut tower bar
greedy turbo timer
and id get all the stock parts what ever hes taken off the car.
all the parts that are on the car are less than 6 month old
it has 90K original miles but with the new turbos, new parts, and rebuilt motor is it good to go or is it a money pit? any comments would be appreciated. thanks

The miles will still matter as far as the things that aren't new. Brakes, suspension, differential, transmission...

Well, you are looking at a car that's almost 10 years old, so miles always matter. Check the lines of the car. Like places where the body panels meet and make sure they all line up good (to make sure the car hasn't been wrecked).

You listed that the car has a midpipe (along with other performance mods), but I don't see an aftermarket ECU in that list. You should verify if the car has one or not. If not, that will be something the car will definitely need immediately.

On paper, aside from the ECU, everything looks fine. But you'll have to check the car out. Check to see what condition the interior is in, the exterior paint. Check for dents or door dings, rust, etc...

Good luck...

see if that rebuild is warranted or not.. people can always mess things up, especially if it's not being done by a reputable shop. Also make sure you want an auto..

see your other post regarding what you'll need to do with the car if you buy it

*an auto to me is not an option on this car, it's not a camry

*veilside kits are FUGLY to me (I'm not alone there)

*make sure the interior and exterior are in good condition, a good paint job costs as much as a new engine and more than turbos, interior is also very expensive (new seats are over a $1000) to fix up

it needs an ecu...probably the cause of it needing a new motor....those mods require additional fuel. driving without an ecu upgrade...especially at boost..risks your prescious new apex seals.

dont learn the hard way...get the IC and the ECU as soon as you can.

I agree that the Veilside kits are kinda crappy looking but im not worried about looks, i can replace that with the stock body parts. my friend from mass whose worked on these things for years, and is working on one of his now, says if you drive it right, with those mods you wont need a new ECU right away. but that will be the first thing ill get.
thanks

It really depends on your boost levels. As long as you keep the boost around 10 PSI or less, you will be fine without a aftermarket ECU.

However, as soon as you start to see the boost spike/creep over 10, you need to let off the gas or else you could run the possibility of going lean and causing detonation.
