N00B here, don't hurt me...
I'm debating whether I should get an RX-7 3rd gen or a MKIV Supra TT...
I don't know much about RX-7, but I know a lot about Supras (used to have a MKIII)... But I've got a good teacher for the 7...
So I need to make a decision soon and buy a car by the end of this month...
So why should I get the 7 over the Supra? Lets make reasonable arguments here now... no BS needed...

dont get an RX7 , they suck, too much $$$$ spent on maintaing them and Yes all the horror stories are true but worse!!!
If I was you I would go " Nissan" maybe an R33 GTS-T or even a GTR32 if you can afford it

yeah, I'd go for the 3rd gen RX7, plenty of power sleek looks good , real head turner and an awesome reliable engine and running gear, cheap to maintain ( as long as you look after it) and heaps of online help for modding, get the RX7!!
honestly, if you can afford a nice supra, there are no reasons to buy a 7. a stock supra can handle just as good, brake the same and out power a stock 7. mod'd the Supra can make twice as much power reliably and can still handle on a road course.
if you want to be "different" then buy a rotary vehicle.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

MKIV Supra: great touring/street car, well made....I'll just never get past the pregnant looks...especially sans rear wing the car looks positively bulbous/ponderous
I also disagree that it handles just as well on a roadrace course....a properly set up FD with even 350 at the wheels will win every time, you can't hide 700 pounds
check out damians vids sometime https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/new-track-video-chasing-down-lamborghini-gallardo-bir-335915/

Once you start comparing mod'd cars, you run into one problem. Money. ****, I can make a fwd Civic outhandle many FD's on this forum for a lot less than a cost of a FD. Anything can be done with money.
put the same money into an FD, say 10k, and into a MKIV, and the FD wins....easily
uncorking the exhaust and dialing the POS stock suspension transforms an FD
again, you can't hide 700 pounds....it's just the simple laws of physics....light weight pays huge dividends in every category (braking, corner speed, acceleration), on the track

I am always amazed when I see a question like this on the forum.
Are you really that unsure?
You know making a decision like this is not rocket science. And, if you are going to trust the posts on this thread, you are well on your way to proving that.
Now here is your answer. It depends. It depends on what your tastes and goals are. It depends on what you want to spend. And, most importantly, it depends on you taking the time to think about all of the important qualities you want in a car, and then making an informed decision.
Good luck

sssshhhhhh, I'm trying to have fun David
I drove my buddys 04 cobra, it was fast but no where near as fun to drive. It might be faster then my rx7 but doesn't feel like it from the driver seat.
When I made this same decision around a year ago, I read all of the articles I could find. Everyone says the rx7 is the funnest driving expereince you can find. Good enough for me, thats why I got it, to have fun.

And that's why they sold a half million of those Miatas. They're not straight-line fast by any means but they handle great and are a hoot to drive. Closest thing to a street legal go-kart as you're going to get.
I agree, don't buy an FD if you aren't planning on doing most of the maintenance yourself. If you have general knowledge of the car and plan to do most stuff hands on, then go for the FD. They're a bitch to maintain if you don't treat them right! Don't get my wrong I like supra's but only if you mod the body.

Of course the Supra thrashed the **** out of it in the magazine tests, but who cares about what happened ten to twelve years ago.
