There was a video floating around about 2 years or so ago of a NA FD driving around over in Japan. I'm sure with the help of Google, if it's still around, it should pop up.
Could this setup be quite a bit lighter, no turbos, no intercooler, no intercooler piping, less vacume lines, no boost controller. Each peice might not weight much by itself but combined maybe enough to justifie the switch to a 3 rotor na? You could distribute less weight in the front and be closer to 50/50 of the origanal desighn (13b twin turbo).
What does a NA 13B have on HP??? I'm assuming he have probably remaped the computer for NA Fuel specs or he would run too rich..... I dont see why not he cannot
be fast.... talk about reliablity too~~~ Man.... I don't think this car will ever break down...
kekekkee...
and I think its ported too.... so this owner deffinetally knows what he is doing.

A lot of people in Japan have done this for circuit racing. Remember, an NA rotary can still develop a lot of power with carbs/porting but that power is completely un-streetable. For a race car there are big advantages to an NA motor on the FD. It's lighter, far less complex, and far more reliable.

I also remember someone stating that in Japan N/A FD's were actually released. Can anyone confirm this? The plates on that FD are certainly foreign... So maybe before we go on and bag on the dude for a conversion, we should do our homework and find out if any FD's actually came N/A.

You guys all noticed the brake booster and master cylinder on the right side of the engine bay, yes?
Oh, btw......hate to say it Jim but you do speak words of truth.

the intake looks way too homeadeish.
The shop you guys talking about is AR-F.
they had done a lot of NA FD from SP. BP. ToPP
For every one not like the NA IDEA. 99% of Mazda Factory race car(AKA mazda speed car) they are NA. and most of Road race car in America is Na.
NA got those advantage over turbo.
1.Lighter.less heat(heat is No1 probelm for RE)
2.respone fast. cheaper to build
Disadvange
1.Less HP and TQ(if you are talking aobut over 400HP)
2. Too loud, might need right transmission to work right
FOR HP
13B BP can make about 260 Engine Hp and still drive on street
13B PP can make about 350 engine HP and mabe still drive on street (if you quite down the car)

I downloaded a best motoring video the other day, called battle of the FR. And it had two ae86's (red and white one), FD RZ, S200, and two M3's, and something else I think. Well anypoo, at the end it showed a white NA FC that outran everything on the same track in 2 seconds less. Obviously the FC was Built up, but purty damn could considering it was turboless.
lol, back when my FD was rotary powered, i drove it around the block a few times with one of the charge pipes missing. Felt like a stock 93 honda civic Dx. Granted the exhuast still had to push the turbo, so im sure a few HP was robbed in the process. :-)
As for people going N/a with their FD's,,, i dont understand how lack of power is an issue? -see Sig.- ;-)
