I didn't see what you guys meant before but I see that the AC has a drain for excess water I guess...that's most likely the cause then
Just for info, the drain pipe isn't for a leak as such. When the air is passed over the evaporator and cools, some water may condense out of the air. The drain pipe is to carry that water, which should be relatively pure, not including any contaminants it picks up along it's journey to the outside of the car.

Ever noticed a puddle of water (not coolant) under the passenger side of the car on a hot humid day?

yes that makes sense - although the smell of that on the carpet isn't exactly "pure" lol Well an update is that I got a pet enzyme cleaner from a pet store and after I dried most of the carpet I sprayed it down to kill any bacteria and clean up the smell. I left a fan running in the car all night and it did a great job drying things up. Hopefully other people figure this out because I wouldn't want to find this problem on a regular basis like some people mentioned. Anyhow thanks a lot for all the help guys.

This thread reminds me of my first new car - a 1978 VW Scirroco. The AC drain hose was pinched shut where it went throught the floor. About 3 gallons of condensate accumulated inside the heater system and would slosh out the dashboard center air vents when I turned a corner! When I pulled off the hose, it all drained onto the carpet.

Bump for this thread.
For the last couple of days, smoke started to come out from the air vents, clogged up the front windshield very badly that i had zero visibility. I turned the a/c on but it didnt do much help apart from more smoke coming out. I wiped the windshield with a towel, but there's this layer of fog that seemed to cover the whole windshield.

After i parked the car, I saw water dripping from under the dash on the passanger side. It has the smell Daemon experienced. I then checked the coolant and it was on L so I'm pretty sure it's the coolant. I'm down to several assumptions here:

1. The coolant is leaking /crack pipe somewhere en-route to the heater core.
2. The heater core itself crack. FYI, I had my heater core replaced with a second hand part back in March by a workshop.

So my questions are:
1. How do i take out the dashboard? Is it a big PITA? Coz I'm down to my last cent and thinking if I can fix it myself without having to drive the car to the workshop. I know the last time the workshop took out my dashboard, they took out the whole stuff around the front dash down to the gearbox area.

2. How do i bypass the heater core? What tools do i need?

3. When coolant drips to the carpet, are there any possibilities that it would rust the chasis under the carpet?

Much help needed plss

Yans

Don't know if I want to help you, you're Victorian! Haha good to see another Aussie around here.

You're best bet is the factory service manual, it's got some instructions on how to remove the dash. I've never done it, so don't know if it's a PITA or not. If you don't have the FSM then you can download electronic copies from www.iluvmyrx7.com
