Question Mystery coolant leak?

Okay, I just got a new rebuild and it was having some problems starting. Well, I got about 100 miles on it so far. Then, today I was running it for about 10 minutes or so and I came back home and shut it off. I restarted it right after to see if it'd start under its own power (I had to ATF it a few times). I started it and it idled for a few seconds. Then the CEL and Coolant light came on and coolant was pouring out of the motor. It was hissing from somewhere in the middle of the motor. Is there some coolant line or something that runs under the UIM that'd let it pour out of the car like that?

There are 2 coolant lines behind the UIM. One of them is easy to see and get to, the other is toward the back of the IUM. Shine a flashlight back there. Its a PIA and the UIM needs to come off.

Don't forget the coolant hose that feeds the crossover pipe that goes to the coolant hose that's under/behind the throttle body! If you remove the intercooler crossover pipe (the black one) and it's mounting bracket, you will see a hose that runs from the back of the thermostat housing to a metal line that then runs toward the driver's side of the engine.

The hose under/behind the throttle body is really only visable if you pull the elbow. It is to the right of all the other stuff under the TB.

The return line for the TB coolant line is the one on the back of the TB, pointing towards the passenger side of the car. It runs all the way down to the passenger side of the block, waaaayyyy down there!

I'm betting on the line that's under the crossover tube, myself! Happy hunting

It's definitely not the one from the thermostat to a metal line. That one blew about a week ago and was the first one I checked this time. I knew about the line on the driver side for the TB, but I didn't know where the return TB line was. I'll have to check that as that's where it sounded like it was coming from.

I strongly advise you replace ALL your hoses if you've not done so already! If one has gone, the others aren't far behind!!

Yea, that's the plan. It's being towed to a friend's garage and all new coolant hoses are going on.

Sorry skunks, I was being unclear. As you know, there are three hoses total that service the throttle body: the send line from the water pump housing (just behind the thermostat) to the metal pipe that runs under the UIM, and is serviced by removing the IC crossover tube and related mounting bracket; the hose connecting the metal line to the throttle body, which is "under" the TB (not the UIM) and to the right as you look at the butterflies with the elbow off (did I just type that?); and the return line that comes off the back of the TB, pointing towards the passenger side, then runs down to the engine block on the passenger side, and is a total nightmare to get at and properly replace, IMO.

Better? And I'm not a knowledge monger, just helping where I can....
