Mysterius Probe hole

Guys,i recently bought a used JDM main cat,and i noticed a "probe?"hole besides the air pipe.I believe that its is used for the warning light inside the panel,in case of cat overheating.Probably i'll plug the hole, but any other ideas would be welcomed.

Regards,

Stathis

My cat didnt have that port at all... odd. The overheat sensor is suppose to be mounted underneath the carpet in the cabin.

It is used so maybe the guy who owned it had some kind of sensor or something in there.

Remember, it's not a 93/94/95 cat as they would all be toast by now, it's probably a 96 >99. The RX-7 96 > used a 16 bit computer. The cat may have had a temp. sensor in it to avoid overheating. Just plug the hole. Later model cars even put an O2 sensor after the cat (for OBDII confirmation the cat is ok), though I don't think the RX-7 ever had that. It was required around 2000 or so.

OBD2a cars (96-98) for the most part did not have a extra heat sensor to make sure the cat was in working conidtion. as part of the stronger emissions in obd2b cars (99+), they all were required to have that sensor to make sure the cat works.

Hmmm..I thought that in Japan they didn't have so strict emission laws.Thats why the jspec fd's didn't have a precat, and it was due to emissions(also) that they stopped exporting the Fd after 1996..

that is a temp sensor, all JDM FD's have them, there is a light on the gauge cluster for it.
