My RX-7 Build, Courtesy of AZ Rotary Rockets. Project pics, take a look!
Hi, for most of you salty members, you've probably seen me around. For some of you newer members, my name is Darren... I enjoy long walks on the beach, ok but seriously, welcome.
I picked up this rx-7 quite some time ago, I had changed my mind about 5000 times before actually figuring out what I wanted to do with it. By the time I finally made up my mind, a couple good friends of mine, and professional Rotorheads, decided to accept my project.
Let me give you a bit of history on my decisions....
I picked this car up with a reman engine in it, no twins, no intercooler. I could have completed the car with a set of twins and an Intercooler. Well, I figured going to a GT35r would be nice, so I snagged that. Then I sold my other 3rd gen RX-7, decided to toss in my engine and a T51r KAI kit, then I had that engine built with crazy ports, ground zero LIM, the works, then I ended up selling the engine and turbo kit! My car sat around for awhile, in a storage unit, then I decided to start gathering parts.....
Here is something close to what the final project will be:
Under the Hood:
-GT4094R Ball Bearing Turbo w/1.19 Hotside
-Dual Tial 38mm Wastegates
-Custom Equal Runner Dual WG Manifold
-Tial 50mm BOV
-Apexi GT Intercooler
-Fluidyne Radiator
-Fluidyne Dual Oil Coolers (these things are NO JOKE)
-EVO-R HID Headlight Kit
-"Weaver" Ported Engine, custom sleeved
-Iannetti 3mm Ceramic Racing Seals
-AZRR Lightened Rotors
-Exedy Twin Carbon Clutch/Flywheel combo
-CJ Primary and Secondary Rails
-Groundzero LIM
-AZRR Ported Throttlebody
-AZRR -8 Custom Fuel Lines (another favorite)
-Weldon FPR
-Injector Dynamics 1000cc Injectors (6 x 1000cc)
-Dual Bosch044 Fuel Pumps feeing Rails
-Single Walbro feeding Surge Tank
-Custom Surge Tank and fuel mounting plate in hatch
-Unorthadox Pulley Set
-Haltech e8
-Ls1 Ignition Coils w/AZRR Coil Bracket
-Painted Engine Bay (Done by AZRR)
Suspension:
-Zeal Function XS 11/8kg
-Cusco Front/Rear Strut Bars
-Front/Rear Sway bars (forget brand)
The Interior
-Full stock black leather interior
-3 pod A-pillar
-3 pod flyrx7 52mm center gauge
-1 pod steering colum
-Old school Defi Gauges (match interior Amber lighting)
-Wideband o2 on steering column
-Rollbar (forget brand)
-Miata/Nardi Steering Wheel
Drive Train:
-Stock except for clutch/fly (this will be changing after I break stuff, which will happen with the expected power of this beast)
Exterior:
-Shineauto Burnout Front End
-m2 Carbon Fiber hood (painted)
-RE Sides
-Veilside Rear Bumper
-Mazdaspeed Replica Spoiler
To Come:
-AZRR Custom Exhaust
-Toe link / Trailing Arm Install

-AZRR Custom Ducting
-No cracker jack vacuum hoses with fancy colors
The Fuel:
-e85
I am sure I am missing a ton of crap, and I'll get more detailed pics when the project is complete. I'm estimating sometime in January

I would like to add that Arizona Rotary Rockets have not cut any corners here. The work they put out is quality, and I've seen some ridiculous engines come them. When I gave this project to them I told them not to go cheap (not that they would anyway, Glen is very particular on what he uses for his builds, for good reason), and I've very, very, pleased with the work so far. The customization they've done for the car has really turned out top notch, and the quality of work really shows.
While the project is still underway, I have to send my thanks out to Glen, Tom, and Allen, along with their affiliates for all the countless hours put into this thing, and they still have more to go!
I have Chris @ Elite Automotive in AZ to thank for the outstanding work on the paint.
There is still a ton more to go and I'll keep updating the post as things come up. I like to give credit where credit is due, and I'll speak highly of AZRR's work, and Elite Automotive's body work.

ive seen this at the shop countless times! cant wait to hear it running, glen, tom, allen have got alot done to the car real fast! and man chris is AMAZING with paint isnt he?! ill be having him do my paint here real soon

ive seen his 240, its a very nice car! glen doesnt know it but im ditching my 13-re build and going p-port

I'm sure I'll be changing things over time, this car was originally built to be a street monster, just fast as all holy hell. It's not a daily, and it's on e85, so it'll be just take out every once in awhile and have some fun with it.
If things didn't take a bad turn for me a few years ago, it'd be an auto-exe 20b, with a GT42, I hated to sell that 20b...
Did Glen built your RE?

glen has been a great mentor to me, he hasnt started on my engine build yet. i dont feel the re is right for me, but im hoping to get the same power gains you are going for 700-800hp on e85. im leaning towards pport or atleast semi pport.
ive decided to sell the re engine and focus on the main focal points of the car...suspension/body etc...engine will just fall into place, i already have wastegates, manifold, bov, haltech etc...engine is nothing

HOw so? THe APexi GT FMIC is thicker than most IC's by at least an inch. It also allows more airflow to the radiator. NOt to mention the car is on e85, which produces a much cooler charge than that of regular fuel.
I've used this IC on a T51r KAI setup, and a TD08 setup, never had any intake charge issues, even at 23psi in Arizona heat.

Nice to see the progress. Yeah, Glen built my monster as well. Very, very happen with the outcome. I've heard all about you, but I'm not sure if we've met (mine is CYM). Hope to cross paths soon, but until then.... nice build! That turbo's a cat catcher!!!

Nice build Darren! I'm glad to see sooo many people on here happy with Glen and his work. He currently has my motor as well (N/A 20B). Hoping to have it back very shortly and I'm very excited to say the least.
