A good percentage of my old friend that used R6's died....total = 4.

That bike is an awsome bike, if you know how to use it properly. One of my buddies finished off his '01 season on that bike...it either chucked him or got him to the finish line.....
Did you watch the Sear Point AMA race last year....remember that R6 that crashed hard (I think it was turn 6)???? That was him.

I still feel that the Gix600 is still the BEST bike '97-'02. It compromised EVERYTHING.

Ride safe.

Well, it can be...just depends on the rider mentality and how he can compose himself when a situation comes up.

For your first bike I WOULD recommend a '97-'00 Gix 600. It is not the FASTEST 600, but it will teach you how to use the entire rev band without any complications. The R6, on full throttle from first will lift off the ground...the front wheel...really easy. (I love that). Not many people, newbies, can control them properly.

Before you ride I would recommend you take a flat tracking school..like Advantage. I will be going back probably next month with a few friends. Mind you this is on loose dirt. It will teach you the technique on how to slide your bike.....the MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT YOU MUST LEARN.

On the street or on the track...after you hit your apex....just twist and slide the rear...once you can handle that...you are there. If you can't, ride a scooter, or an SV650.

All I can say is learn as much as you can before you get way over your head. I have the scares and surguries to prove that there is a fine line you must respect. On the street there is no room for error...do it on the track, there are no walls, cars, cliffs, guard rails to hit. Well....with the exception of the asphalt...ouch....really hurts....wear the proper gear.

Dont be scared....be smart and fast.

Yes...Suzuki. I might have one for sale...maybe.

It is a '99 w/11k miles and is near mint. Or if you like, I have a '97 ZX7R, this is my pit bull...all in black. Or if you like, I can sell you my '00 750 (has 2500 miles on it).

No...AIM...sorry...not into that (yet)

Gix600 / yellow w/ Yosh slip, frame sliders, very clean, and recently serviced = $5k

ZX7R / All blk....mint, new vortex sproks 2 up anodized, gold o chain, 207RR's, sliders, stand w/ spools...have tons of extra aftermarket parts for sale.... like I said...mint! $5100

Gixx 750....forget it, change my mind...I just read an article in the new Motorcycle mag...it was rated at the Master bike....

the R6 is an awesome bike...but it's also very unforgiving. It is very light and precise, making it almost effortless to steer. And that is why a lot of beginners get way ahead of themselves. New riders often don't know that the R6 comes equipped with track tires from the factory, which makes it extremely dangerous to ride even in light fog/rain. But I still think that the R6 is an excellent bike for beginners since it is so easy to control, the important is that you gotta know your limits. One thing that they need to get though is a steering damper if they were to get a R6, which comes standard on all the gixxers. Sorry if I sound contradicting but I just got back from the club...
