Well I have no more excuses. I have to get back to polishing the UIM. I've been holding off as long as I could. Maybe I should pull off the turbos.

If you are referring to the wire clamps on the 2" rubber hose between the pump and reservoir, yes, they are out of place compared to the rest of the clamps on the car.

If I may make a suggestion, use Breeze constant torque clamps on the silicon coolant hoses. Those worm clamps loosen up after a few repeated heat cycles.

i second that. many people make the mistake of putting generic clamps on and over time the hoses slide right off. being silicone, they'll get softer as they heat up. constant torque clamps are rather expensive compared to most others

kustomizingkid 05-04-09 03:35 PM

I've never seen those clamps before... is there really that big of an advantage?

Prometheus 05-04-09 06:57 PM

Yes, there is.

Last thing you want in a polished engine bay is coolent spraying all over the place.

nero1106 05-05-09 10:19 AM

Nice clamps. I actually use the Breeze Liner Clamps (http://www.breezeclamps.com/liner.htm). Not as good but at least they save the hoses from the worm gears. I'll probably end up grabbing some of the constant torque clamps for the rad hoses. Where's the cheapest place to buy them? I did a quick search and found a couple places that sell them for about $5-$6 a piece.

I was thinking of mounting the Twin Power there. Just curious where you guys usually mount it? You have to remember I'm RHD so I have the ABS stuff to deal with. Also, how hard is it to recharge the A/C?

kustomizingkid 05-13-09 11:01 PM

You need the proper tools, mainly a vacuum pump and gauge set... best left to a pro imo...

nero1106 05-13-09 11:12 PM

What about the a/c recharge kits they sell?

gracer7-rx7 05-13-09 11:40 PM

Stunning work on the UIM. Amazing attention to detail.

That location is fine for the Twinpower. CrispyRX7 mounts his there also.

brad89au 05-13-09 11:44 PM

still need vac pump. also need to know which refrigerant the system is, the use of R12 here in australia is illeagal now, not sure about where you are tho. get it done professionaly mate.

kustomizingkid 05-14-09 12:31 AM

You need a vacuum pump, you have to have a vacuum on the system so it will pull the refrigerant into it.... I don't know off the top of my head what they were speced for but if it were the older type you might need to change all the o rings before having it recharged.

rizzxx7 05-14-09 07:16 AM

where did you get that power steering pulley and silver tensioner? looks awsome!!!

nero1106 05-14-09 10:56 PM

All the pulleys are stock except the ps pulley. I got that off ebay. The rest are just painted or polished.

smog-guy707 05-14-09 11:14 PM

wow... very impressive

You can rent a AC vacuum from autozone here in the US for free. I don't know if they have a store like autozone over in CA. I think the vacuum should be at 29.5 if i remember correctly.

Looks good

I think you just about covered every single possible angle in a 3 dimensional realm in those UIM pics though...

It took a lot of time to polish that thing. I just wanted some proof of all the hard work. By the way, I really like you FD website. Nice clean MB. I've be contemplating on whether to change the color of mine. After seeing yours and "Deals Gap Rotary Rally" I may just stick with it.
