I have to get back to polishing the UIM. I've been holding off as long as I could. Maybe I should pull off the turbos. |

Also changed a bunch of clamps, painted the cross beam, and replaced a few rusted bolts. What's with wire clamps for power steering pump?
If you are referring to the wire clamps on the 2" rubber hose between the pump and reservoir, yes, they are out of place compared to the rest of the clamps on the car. If I may make a suggestion, use Breeze constant torque clamps on the silicon coolant hoses. Those worm clamps loosen up after a few repeated heat cycles. http://www.breezeclamps.com/ct.htm |

I've never seen those clamps before... is there really that big of an advantage?
|
Yes, there is.
Last thing you want in a polished engine bay is coolent spraying all over the place. |
Nice clamps. I actually use the Breeze Liner Clamps (http://www.breezeclamps.com/liner.htm). Not as good but at least they save the hoses from the worm gears. I'll probably end up grabbing some of the constant torque clamps for the rad hoses. Where's the cheapest place to buy them? I did a quick search and found a couple places that sell them for about $5-$6 a piece.

Finally ... I'm finally finished polishing the f-ing UIM. What a PITA that was. I spent too much time on this, so here are some pics.
UIM bare: https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0593.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0594.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0595.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0596.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0597.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0598.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0600.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0602.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0605.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0608.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...e/DSC_0609.jpg |
UIM w/ all the goodies:
https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0627.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0633.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0634.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0635.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0643.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0644.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0645.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...r/DSC_0647.jpg |
I also bought a couple more things ...
Fuse Bracket (painted w/ new bolts): https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_0663.jpg NRG Hood Dampers: https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_0655.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_0657.jpg HKS Twin Power: https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_0652.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_0648.jpg https://i426.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_0650.jpg I was thinking of mounting the Twin Power there. Just curious where you guys usually mount it? You have to remember I'm RHD so I have the ABS stuff to deal with. Also, how hard is it to recharge the A/C? |
You need the proper tools, mainly a vacuum pump and gauge set... best left to a pro imo...
|
What about the a/c recharge kits they sell?
|
Stunning work on the UIM. Amazing attention to detail.
That location is fine for the Twinpower. CrispyRX7 mounts his there also. |
still need vac pump. also need to know which refrigerant the system is, the use of R12 here in australia is illeagal now, not sure about where you are tho. get it done professionaly mate.
|
You need a vacuum pump, you have to have a vacuum on the system so it will pull the refrigerant into it.... I don't know off the top of my head what they were speced for but if it were the older type you might need to change all the o rings before having it recharged.
|
where did you get that power steering pulley and silver tensioner? looks awsome!!!
|
All the pulleys are stock except the ps pulley. I got that off ebay. The rest are just painted or polished.
|
wow... very impressive

Looks good
I think you just about covered every single possible angle in a 3 dimensional realm in those UIM pics though... |
