My precious FD got hit by a BMW 7 series
My FD got hit by a 7 series BMW in a parking lot yesterday. Old chinese man failed to look back or even to look in the rear view mirror when he placed the gear on reverse. I even honked more than 5 times before he hit me. That hit caused my precious FD's bumper and the left side fender. He hit right between the fender and the bumper and created a basket ball sized dent.
My question is, would I have to replace the whole bumper? I know fender can be smacked back into place, but since the stock OEM bumper is not made out of metal, it need to be replaced? It is not cracked but it does have a dent.
Let me know, if you guys have experienced a dent on stock bumper. I'd want to replace it with spec 99 bumper so hopefully it needs to be changed. This is a good chance to get some of my money back from the insurence company right?

Yea, Thankx man. I was reading other posts and i noticed that alot of people are getting hit in the same situation also. I guess people these days dont look back when then go on reverse? or our cars are too low to be seen by large cars...?

To swap on the '99+ front end, you'll need the bumper cover, lower spoiler, rebar, turn signal lights, oil cooler ducts, amongst other things, and it will cost about ~$2K, and that's for parts only. Most likely you won't be getting back money from your insurance company but will end up paying more, out-of-pocket, since those ancillary parts are needed, as opposed to just getting a new '93-'95 bumper cover.

Since I import the used Japense FD parts from Japan, I can obtain the combination lights with no trouble. And I already have the 99spec. lower chin spiler. As for oil cooler duct, I have done the DIY and made a hole in the inner fender so I can pass on that one also. The insurance can cover the labor, paint job and the bumper and I think that should be good enough.

You guys becareful...dont assume that they will stop. If you have time to honk at them, back up instead....thats what I should have done. I feel like crap when I drive my car now. I don't know if people are turning their heads, appriciating my car or they are looking at my *cute sexy dimple* that i've got yesterday from the BMW

its easier to buy a new fender/bumper. since your in the lower 48's, you can buy a new bodykit for cheap... ~ 250 dollars for some
in anycase, hopefully the guy had insurance and it will cover everything. make sure you get the price for new OEM fd stuff as those parts really do add up quickly. if you have to, sue him. He is at fault!

You could get it for a little less if you go used. Maybe between $1400 and $1600 for parts. Don't know how much you where thinking about paying though.

The fron bumper is just a urethane skin, so if the dent stays then it means the rebar underneath is damaged or worse. you should take the car to a reputable body shop to get an estimate, or pull the front bumper skin off (search the forum) and have a look.

I am in the process of putting a 99 front bumper and maybe some apexi side skirt and round tail light. I got the combo lights already. Most places i called up told me they can sell me the bumper and lip and i can use polyfoam for reinforcement and i have no plans of changing the oil cooler induct. Did any1 here ever put it on this way. Im figuring the oil cooler induct is probably kinda cheap so if i need that ill just buy it. As for rebar i know its about 300. Should i buy it or is just a waste of money?

There are people that can repair your bumper even if its ripped.
I have been in the body business for about ten years. I know a guy that can fix about any bumber if you have most of the pieces.
