My oil analysis at 1,500 miles

Gimme your thoughts fellas. I premix with Idemitsu and the motor has 3,000 miles now.

Viscosity isnt looking so hot. Why are ya running 10w30? I'd thinkg 20w50 would be more appropriate for your modded FD in the cali summer.

Also, how many miles are on your bearings? that copper level is kinda high.

Edit: just noticed this is from breakin, partially explains the bearing material. Based on their comments, I'd definitely run 20w50.

Try using something like Castrol instead of Pennzoil.

Gene, where's the gas coming from? (2.5%)
Am I missing something here?

Rotaries are known to fuel dillute the oil so I don't think it's that big of an issue. Just change your oil frequently.

Yes I know, but I didn't think it would be this much. I was thinking less than 1%.
So, the 2.5%, would be the norm on a new rebuild?

Just curious, what would a higher mileage engine be?

I've heard as high as 10% on engines with 50k miles or so.

I'd be interested in getting an analysis done as well. I know there are kits and such out there but how did you go about it? The comments seem well informed.

How does the gas seep into the oil pan? Gas must somehow escape the combustion chamber. Slip through the side seals or something?

San Diego is NOT a "hot weather" community in the summer. Its actually pretty mild. I don't see the need for a heavier weight oil. Regarding Penzoil, I wouldn't use it. I don't think it is as good as Castrol. My preference is Mobil One. I use 10/30, and my climate is very similar to yours.

It could be way high because of lubricants left during the engine rebuild.

We use preservative oils in our industrial gearboxes that leave similarly high calcium levels for the first oil change.

Or maybe it's to prevent osteoporosis.

Dave, I know you were planning on doing a few different oil analysis tests with rotary-preferred oils....did you ever get a chance to try any of them out?

Gene, the gas dillution was actually less than I thought it would be, but thank you for confirming why I use castrol dino oil (cheap) and just change it every 1000 miles.

yep....2.5% would be super high for any other engine, but pretty much par for the course with a turbo 13b

I'd like to see some results for Mobil 1 15w-50 after 2,000 miles, perhaps I'll grab a sample next time

Interesting, but I have a hard time understanding why everyone has gotten so paranoid about their oil. Bearing failures are last on my list of things to worry about.

If one is worried about having slightly diluted oil lubing the apex seals, then I'd think supplemental premixing would be an excellent solution. Or use the RA OMP adapter.
