Just curious....so long as you have them out of the car, and you'll be taking the others out, what is the weight of an RX-8 seat compared to the stock FD seat?

Also just wondering, do these seats come with some motorized reclining function? If so, do you plan on installing that in as well and +1 for the weight comparison?

You'd be hard pressed to find factory seat light than the FD's. By the time you rif up a FG raceshell onto a slider, you're only saving 10 lbs.

These ought to look cool if they fit though.

haha new to me, they have about 2k miles on them....$450

they are black cloth with airbags, not motorized.

i will be removing my seats later today so ill get back to you guys on the weight, so far though from just removing them from the box i was surpised how light they were. i cant imagine the leather fd seats being lighter....

stay tuned more info to come

the r32 gtr seats weigh less then anything i have ever lifted.

easily a one hand lift for any scrawny person with the slider.

ok i weighed the rx-8 passenger seat @ ~35 lbs.

after removing the fd passenger seat the 8 seat feels slightly heaiver. personally though the 2 or 3 lb difference doenst concern me as the comfort and style of the 8 seat means more to me, plus my tan seats are gross.

as far as the installation goes....after sitting and looking at it for 30 minutes with 2 friends i think we came to a resolution on how to retro fit the fd rails onto the seat. modifying the rx-8 rail looks like it would be way too complicated and tedious.

going to whip out the rotary tool tommorrow with mini grinding stone and hack all the brackets off the 8's rails, hopefully ill get some pics to post.

Although it's tight, it'll definitely fit. I saw a set installed back at rotorfest 2005.

ok, so the passenger seat is in. whew what a bitch. the 8 rails are so far apart they hit the tranny tunnel on one side and the plastic on the other side....however they do fit, with limited rear sliding range....if i file down the interior plastic a little im sure i can get the full sliding range.

basicly i attached the fd rails to homemade brackets attached to the original rails. the rear 2 bolts line up perfect and the front right bolt lines up perfect, but the left front side wont sit flush on the floor because the 8 rail hits the tranny tunnel. i may build up some washers or make a flange to get that last bolt in. with 3 of 4 bolts in th seat is quite secure.

here is a low quality pic for now,,,

Looks like a tight fit. I take it your FD is at a paint/body shop? Looks familiar

sounds nice, just make sure he removes the door trim molding (long strip under the small plastic triangle by the side view mirror mount) before he paints.....I can see it still there in the high-res pic you posted.

I really like how the FD seat holds you in the corners... Can you (or any rx-8 owners) comment on how well the RX-8 seats feel?

the seats are incediblly comfortable and the shoulder pads hold you in nice.

the driver seat is now in, 3 of 5 bolts in, i need to file the interior plastic down some to get the seat to slide back further, so i can tighthen the front bolts.
