first let me tell u the story so far
on friday i picked up ma first fast car a 1993 gen rx7 beautiful car except for 1 problem the downpipe was blowing or so i thort so i drove the 120 mile journey home and it seems like am getting no boost from the first turbo and then an almighty wack at 4000ish rpm. So anyway on the saturday i strip everything out the engine bay to get to leak, i replace the downpipe gasket at both ends and rebuild it while putting it back together i notice 1 of the actuator arms has fallen off or been removed i think the one that swaps between the two turbos . The exhaust was still blowing so i stripped back down to find the turbo was leaking somwhere. so after much main blood and swearing i had the turbo off to find 3 small cracks in the small turbo flange all very small and not past the gasket also that flange is warped heavily. im hoping to have the flanges skimmed flat this week and gaskets sent over from america.
so basically thats my introduction to rx7s i still love the car tho

id just like to know if that actuator being off would be somone converting the car to non sequential turbos if so how can i return this to standard what else is there to look out for that is likely to have been done

and any advise to putting it back together or with skimming the turbo im only 23 and my last car was a 1.6 saxo i feel a little outta my depth but loving it so far cheers for reading Danny

If the wastegate actuator is missing, there's nothing stopping the wastegate from opening and staying open, allowing all your exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine and causing 0 boost. You need that piece connected and functioning properly with a proper vacuum/boost source.

 

so thatd be why the car is slow up to around 4000rpm the guy who sold me it is gonna be kicking himself

 

Yes, quite possibly.

Don't sweat the small cracks in the turbo. If the faces are out, getting them machined flat is a good idea. Either way, if there is an exhaust leak the evidence will be really clear when you look at the faces.

the face was white all the way up the edge of the gasket about an inch n half long and the turbo heat sheald had a lot of carbon exhaust type deposit on the inside of it i really hope this is the problem as its a nightmare to remove and the gasket cost me 130dollar for the two and i gotta wait 4 them to ship to the uk. oh the fun. has given me a chance to get the car looking really nice tho i have to sit at work looking at it every day tho its so depressing

 

id just like to add that the actuator control that had coem off was the precontrol i think not 100% was a few days ago
