My FD officially has a new home *sniffle* PICS

I just received an e-mail from the guy who purchased my car. The truck just dropped it off today, and he seems extremely happy with it. Looking at the pictures, I miss it a bit, but I'm planning on getting a nice set of CCW 505As for the Z06 to help make it a bit more unique as the FD was.

Here are a few pictures of the new Z06. I haven't had a chance to Zaino her yet, but I'll be sure to post up a few pics with the Zaino and the new wheels!





I can't make up my mind on which direction I want to go with the modifications. For right now, I think I'm just going to get headers and a tune (already have an intake). That should bring me up to the 380-390 rwhp range with perfect driveability and the awesome V8 sound. I have a 3 year/36k mile GM warranty on the car, so I'd hate to do any major mods and ruin the warranty on the engine/drivetrain. However, I plan on doing some type of forced induction setup down the road (can you say Twin Turbo Vette?).

Anyways, I'll still be lurking around on the forum just to keep track of the latest and greatest single turbo choices and such.

I've seen your car around (the rx7club and TC) boards. Why are you selling your car?? It's so gorgeous! ANd I really don't like Montego Blue sevens....

I thought you were contemplating an ls1 swap... and then you go out and buy and ls6 C5/Z06... I can't fault you for that. You made a brilliant choice for the replacement car, but come on!

Please state why you sold the FD I'm sure you have *good* reasons

I was just ready for a change. Plus, I really wanted to make the FD faster, and I wasn't going to be happy with less than 550 rwhp. That was going to require a rebuild on the turbo and a rebuilt motor is always something that must be considered at those power levels. I just didn't want to take the chance of investing another $5+k into the car with the potential of blowing it up.

The Z06 can handle 550 rwhp safely on teh stock bottom end. A new twin turbo kit has been released that is making those power levels at 5-6 psi on pump gas. That's my tenative plan assuming that the kit turns out to be as good as everyone says it is in the long run.

nice zo6 btw, is there any big differences between the 02 z06 and the new 06 z06?

Don't know if the new owner is on the forum or not.

Yes, the new Z06 is a 7.0 (427) and makes 505 crank hp from the factory.

My Z06 is a 5.7 (346) and makes 405 crank hp from the factory.

I plan on buying a new Z06 in 2 years or so after I graduate from law school.

BTW: The new owner lives in Sacramento, so not far from you (assuming Bay Area is San Fran area).

Huge difference in the two Z06's. The new one has a small block 427, rated at 505hp. More carbon fiber, more magnesium, more everything good in a sence. Better braking, better accel, better grip. These new ones are truly amazing cars.

But thats not to say the old ones arent great cars either. Great looking vette. Your FD has been and always will be on my computers background. Its a beauty.

Make sure you make your vette gnarlier than your 7, or else the trade wasnt worth it...Right?

z06 has more potential anyway

and looking at your previous posts/mods/kill stories, i know you wanted speed without the sacrifice of fear, money, problem that go along with it..

heads/cams, spray, you're prob seeing over 600rwhp

Nice Z06! I test drove the same car about 2 months ago (not your car, but an EB '02). I was very impressed with the powertrain, but greatly prefer the chassis/styling of the FD. From then I said that if my FD wouldnt be powerful/reliable enough, I would do the LSx swap instead of buying a Z06. I am curious as to why you didnt go this route, especially with the investment you had in the body of your FD.

I seriously considered doing the LSX swap; however, my big problem was the timeframe. I really didn't want to be without my FD for several months while Hinson did the swap, and I don't have the time, tools, space, or skills to do the swap myself.

Thats understandable. I wasnt knocking the Z06s chassis, it definately can handle just as well as the FD.. but it just felt much different. Cant wait to see what you do with it

$24,900 and the buyer agreed to let me keep the JL 10W0s, the box, and the Polk 500.1 (powered the subs).

alan, too bar the fd is gone. you will love the vette. my z06 dynoed a healthy 545/502 at the wheels a blast to drive and handles just as well. are you gonna lower it on the stock bolts. i lowered it and now handles evn better. i can't wait to get my street ported t78 back so i run them agaist each other. good choice of color. kevn

Yeah, I cranked her down an inch or so on the stock bolts. I think I need to cut the bushings up front to go any lower. Once I get the CCWs and pull the stock wheels off, I'll look into lowering it a bit more to get the stance just right.
