Well tonight I went to see Terminator 3 (WHICH IS AWESOME) and when I got their I parked in the parking garage like any normal person would do... I shut my car off... Open my door, then WOOOOOSSSSHHHH all the coolent in my engine explodes out of my car and all over the ground... well relating back to my earlier posts... my fears were realized... having no pressure relase on my coolent system finally made something give way. Currently its midnight and my car is sitting all alone in a parking garage about 15 minutes from me... I debated spending the night with it actually. Im just praying it was a coolent hose and not a seal. Hopefully my friend will get home soon and i will be back their tonight trying to fix my car. Wish me luck

also any ideas what may have come undone would be appreciated... it appears to be around the turbos

Yeah, theres a few hoses that usually go brittle and bad around the turbos due to the excessive heat in that area. Good luck trying to get to the hoses though. You'll probably end up being tangled in vacuum lines and stuff.

 

Good excuse for him to go non-sequential and get rid of that rat's nest too

 

Could be the heater hose to the hose that connects to the heater. Blew on me once, poor thing was baked solid.

 

I went out last night to get some drinks at Applebees. When I pulled into the parking lot I saw my temps were up to like 113. I was like wtf. I turned on the heat full blast, pulled into a spot, and quickly parked. Temps hit 120C. I left the fans on till it cooled. Coolant pouring under the car. After some investigation I saw the calmp on the hose that goes from the lower radiator hose to the heater core wasn't on right. I got a ride home from a friend to get some tools and bought a few gallons of water. Fixed the clamp, filled it with water, and was able to get home. Itsprobably something stupid. There are only a few places coolant can leak. Check both the upper and lower radiator hoses. Yuo can try squeezing them and see if anything squirts out. Also the turbo coolant hoses, the throttle body coolant hoses, and heater core hoses. On my single turbo car this was alot easier. Do you still have an ast? Find out what broke and then asses if you can fix it. Otherwise get a tow truck. Good luck.

 

I agree with Ihor, flat bed that **** if it's not in tip-top shape. AAA is your best friend

Sorry to here that. Fix the leak and hook your coolant to the over flow tank as soon as you can.

 

could be a hose or your overflow reservoir

 

thanks for the advice! I ended up going back to work on it at 2:30 in the morning Turned out the lower radiator hose exploded... I had it fixed and back on the road by like 3:00 pm today... just in time for the fireworks

and i dont have a pressure release because someone took out my ast without the kit..

 

I'm assuming that you're planning on rectifying that situation soon ?

 

Glad to hear that it was minor. What amazes me is that you still went in to see the movie after all your coolant excaped.

Well i decided to just put in a new aluminum ast... i have it and its on the car... However i cant figure out how it mounts... I have it ghetto'd to the intercooler with some cable ties... does anyone have a picture of where it mounts or diagram or a good explaination? (Ive got all the hoses hooked up without a problem)

 

It's pretty simple. There is a bracket underneath with a rubber bushing. You jam the peg under the AST into that. Remove the old hoses and put in the new AST.

Then you just use the existing flange and bolts to fasten the top to the intercooler. Done.

you know what... i hate my fd... Im finally starting to realize exactly why its the highest maintanance car in the world... last night i parked it in my friends driveway and shut it off.. (after a slightly hard run a minute before hand) and when i got out of the car it started pouring coolant out of the turbo side... i had to get a rid into work today and tonight i get to rip it apart and find out what went... Needless to say ive already ordered my turbo timer

 

I hope it's not coming from the overflow...

The turbo timer won't solve anything. I can't really even see the purpose for them... But that will be argued I'm sure.

As for the coolant... Check the turbo hoses... as You have already said. Mine did the same thing the day I drove it home. What a welcome! It's a bit of a bitch to get to, but once you figure out what you are doing it's not too bad. I recommend replacing ALL the coolant hoses at one time. Since the coolant is already out, you might as well. Besides, most of them are in need of replacing by now anyway. I replaced mine 10K miles ago and they are brittle AGAIN. (The turbo hoses)

Also as previously stated.. Check the overflow. You do have one. It's behind the passenger headlight!

well i do alot of hard driving so it may not be a bad idea to have the timer to let the car cool off.... but as for the hose.. i found it, was the one under the smog pump....

also i actually dont have an overflow... the previous owner bypassed and removed the ast without the kit... (i also dont have the plastic wheel fenders in the car) slowly but surely im bringing the FD back to what i consider *mint* condition....

as for replacing the hoses... im gonna use steel braided hose.. I have had alot of luck with them on my drag car so i figure why not.
