my exhaust tips fell off

coming out of the gas station today, my rear clipped the curb. my stock exhaust tips got kinked, one pretty much fell off, so i pulled both of them off. now the pipe exits are well recessed behind the bumper, and the area around the bumper gets real hot after a drive. so...can i just weld the tips back onto the ends of the pipes? i really don't want to pay for a new muffler or have my bumper melt

You might be able to have them welded on, or similar-looking tips welded on. Should be real easy for a muffler shop to do.

Time to start saving for a new cat-back . Keep your eye out - many times you can find good used aftermarket ones for a good price.

If you dont want to go aftermarket I am sure there is someone local who has their stock catback sitting in the garage. You can prolly pick it up for less than 100 bucks. I'd sell you mine, but I don't feel like shipping it.

i don't really have that kind of cash lying around for a new cat-back right now. the tips look like they're in good shape

how long do you suppose i can drive around w/ the exhaust gas melting or blacken my bumper?

That same thing happened to me on a Trust Cat-back. I am just going to clean it up and weld it. If everything is in good shape it shouldn't be hard at all. I wouldn't let it melt the bumper for very long.

Not for long! The carbon can be cleaned off, but the heat will deform it.

I would just get them welded back on for a few bucks... any competent welder should be able to do this right on the car..

Where in So Cal are you?

like many other people have said, i would advise to put a want ad in the right section of the forums. That's what i would do, it's a pretty sure shot because there are a lot of good people willing to help another FD owner out.

ANY muffler shop (Meineke, Monro, or local places) should be able to do it.

I recently had a leak fixed in my cat. converter. I didn't want to spend a lot of money - so I went to a local muffler shop hoping they wouldn't make it into an expensive ordeal. When I saw them installing fartcans on VWs and Hondas - I knew it would be affordable It was, he did it while I waited for $10. Welding tips shouldn't be much more than 30min of work for them.
