hey damian, i finally got my filters in yesterday and my intake is complete . I love it!! my old stock airfilter was coated w/ oil all over and after i tried this new intake...WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I now have excelent throttle response, i can hear the turbos spool up, and i can barely even feel the turbo transition. Once again i have to thank you for saving me $300, this is just as good as pettit's.

I dont have my air pump connected so is it ok to plug up the air pump and the ACV outlet? that is what i did and i think it should be ok.

great to hear!!

capping up the airpump should be ok if ur not running it, but keep in mind that it pumps air to the cat-converter, without that air it will slowly destroy the cat-converter

do you have a boost gauge? what is your boost levels?

amen JhnRx7,

damian, I made a silencer that is really ghetto, but it works for now or until i can find something better. I just put a hose on the ACV and capped it off and drilled about 5 lines of about 6 holes in it. You can still hear the sound a little sometimes, but it is FAR better than before. Let me know when/if you come up with something better.

BTW, my boost went up to about 11-12-11 or so.

if you spike then you should feel the transition more, not less, it will 'pull' harder at trasition if it spikes....

when you said 'i can barely even feel the turbo transition.' ... do you mean that it dosnt 'dip' in power as much on the trasition or doesnt 'pull' as much on the transition?

if you only have an intake and dp you should be ok.... but once you get ur boost gauge on you will be able to see it all

quick update, I did some serious driving today to get my manual boost controllers and idle tweaked up, and noticed the following...

After hard driving, a bit if cooldown time, then shutdown...the lower inside of the heat sheild was cool to the touch (air filter side) and the top of the small airpump filter was cold....the top and outside of the sheild was warm (side facing the radiator)...so it seems to be doing a good job so far

another note, the self adheasive rubber door protector stuff that I used to cover the edge of the sheild is not holding up tp the heat, anywhere it makes contact it holds fine, but anywhere it does not, it has pulled away from the sheild.

update on the sheild...

I added a bend to the sheild so that I could get the filter tilted down a bit more, here is a pic:

Also, I plan on making a new version that extends the shield wall to the same distance as the vertical wall.

I cant believe I missed this thread first time around....

Hell of a custom mod damian - looks great. I am far from getting to this detail in my project but when I get there I am surely going to take this info into account.

One thing I noticed is you were using the dryer tubing for the ducting. I used that stuff for a custom intake I did a while ago and it did not last long at all. The stuff basically fell apart. I was talking to a friend and he knew a website that sold 3 and 4" silicon ducting. He told me the website 2 different times but unfortunately I had the same bad memory both times and I never tracked it down (anyone have a mod for my ****-poor memory?). Anyway maybe someone could direct you there. With the high quality stuff you have made you should have high quality ducting too!

Shawn

id say to get a midpipe and get rid of that airpump. It will make it a lot easier to do the side part. Watch for boost spikes though

"anti-moo box"

Did the conversion and the results are great. The "moo" is tremendous though so I was looking at the stock airbox and got an idea. I was wondering if anyone has tried this or has a better solution...

Taking a dremmel tool to the stock airbox and cutting out the silencer to ACV (I believe this is the "moo" valve) and putting only the silencer part back in line with the ACV. Would this work?

NoFriends - if you are still around do you have pictures of your solution?

i HATE the mooo...but now i hear nothing, here was my solution based on somthign i read before.... an sos pad, the air cal flow through well but it disipates it so the moo goes away... just stick an sos pad in the end of a tube, then put somthing at the end of the tube to keep the sos pad in, i used a part from homedepot...ill try and post a pic if you want one.
