Hmm.. I made a post last night but I guess it never got posted..

Anyhow, We all go thru some bad spots.. I'm sure you'll come back stronger than ever.. And MonkeyMagic,.. Do you even own an FD?? your profile says civic or something..

This reminds me that I need to put my Halon fire extinguishers on my car.. I bought a small 1lb from Griots garage and realized it was too small.. I have 5lb Halon now.. I guess it will weight the car down.. but who gives a ****, when your cars on fire..

Hope you don't give up on 7's.. don't listen to the newbie.. you are meant for 7..

You have definitely had more than your share of bad luck....

How many other cars could you put so much blood, sweat, and tears into?

Good luck with the repairs and may the rotary gods shine on you once again.....

Bummer!

Man that is one of the worst stories I have heard on the forum. I feel for you. I give you kudos for sticking with it. I guess I have been very fortunate. So far all original at 64K.

sorry to hear that bro.

My first FD cought on fire too (early 1998). It had $36k miles on it when it lit like a christmas tree. 4 months later i bought another. Five years later and I'm still scared to death that it will happen again.

I feel dead, for sure. My car is still stuck in purgatory....

Progress is purportedly being made but this really sucks. I've been without this the bulk of 16 months....after having it for a decade it's very demoralizing.

People would just prefer that you PM someone if you have something you want to talk to them about, rather than bringing up an old post or starting a new topic just for that.

jeez. I have had a fire somewhat like that, although not as nearly severe. My back bumper is fried, with a huge burn making its way through the reverse light. Thing is, my mechanic did it, and luckily caught the flame in time cuz another mechanic nearby started yelling FIRE! and he got kamikaze and wacked it out with his hand and mutilated the skin on his palm and mangled my back bumper. Pretty core, but none the less left me with a ruined exhaust and bumper. Sorry to hear about your luck with this car, mine hasn't ever been good with it either. $24k investment that nearly overheats with a brand new motor and all sorts of other problems. Its been a money pit for me ever since ownership and I really really commend such a brave effort in giving the FD so much credit and having so much pride in the car to only have it do you wrong time after time. Ahh the life of a rotary. Gotta love it man. You're giving me hope.

I'm amazed and impressed at your persistence. Think I would've been in search of a replacement long ago.

What a bummer! It's like losing a loved one...

I'm going to go move my fire extinguisher from the hatch to the passenger compartment right now.

I don't CARE how it looks.

A chrome Halon unit under the tree would be nice. A little pricey at $140.00 or so...

Think I'll mount mine on the back of the passenger seat.

wow...amazing how this got resurrected...

I have good pics of the 1st car and the transformation of the 2nd car I moved the parts into it along with the subsequent fire on that one. Am out of town right now and can't post them but will post a link to the pics of all and subsequent rebuilds in 1-3 days.

ANd yes, the issue for the fire was found and supposedly is electronics. The map sensor was reading boost when there was none and injecting fuel is what I am hearing now. There is a signal indicating boost when there is none and apparently stemming from having moved the car parts from MT to AT. There is voltage showing when there shoudl be none. I'm not doing the work so I know only what I'm being told. Jeff was to isolate the source with an Ohmmeter this last week but I have been too busy to check in.

I'm pretty sick of the whole deal. I'm staying with it because I've had an FD so long and am so heavily invested in it now after this last 1.5 years in restoring it.
To quit now would make it a financial failure as well as an aspirational failure. I'm not about to accept either one...especially when it was coming along so damn nice.

do you know if your engine if fine? if there was a loss of fuel to the engine, it may of went lean, but hopefully it was just from the exhaust.
ive had bad luck with people hitting me as well. im almost scared to drive my fd now, for fear of getting hit. good luck though, hopefully the insurance company will not try to screw you over.
