My A/C randomly stops blowing cool air..any ideas?

My air conditioner is typically very cold normally. Randomly, while driving, the cold air will stop blowing & warm air gets blown into the cabin...it's not hot air, more like as if just the fan was blowing outside air in & not cooling it. This lasts for only about five minutes or so, then the cold air starts up again. Needless to say, it's annoying & uncomfortable.

I don't use my car as a race car...just a fun driver. I like my A/C & so does my girlfriend so any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Sounds like you're low in Freon...

If it is happenning while driving and not sitting in traffic, that might be bad news.
What does your water temperature gauge indicate when this is happenning?

At an absolute minimum, have your cooling system checked by a really good Mazda RX-7 shop. Also ask them to check if you are leaking coolant in your rotors.

I had a high contact resistance on my evap thermal switch which resulted in the compressor working intermittently.
