my 7 keeps blowing main 120fuse

any ideas?

I hadn't started the car for about a month and went out the other day to start it. We'll the battery was dead so I charged the battery and tried it again but still no power. check my main and found it to be blown so placed another and and hooked up the battery and still no power. checked the 120 again only to find it blown again.

haven't changed anything in set up or anything. Just drove it home one day and let it sit. I tighten the grounds off the battery to the frame and tried another but it just blew as soon as I hookup power.

i know it seems obvious but if the battery is put in backwards, (polarity reveresed) first thing that happens is main fuse will blow

the battery isn't backwards. its never disconnected. Have a circuit breaker to break the current when charging. its in the hatch.

correct me if I'm mistaken but should be the + cable from the battery to the fuse block that would have the damage since its the only power source up to that point, or does it junction other places before the fuse block?

Yes, Your battery is in the trunk if read right. Check the + cable to the fuse block under the hood. Should not have anything else on it , But worth checking that nothing else is coming off it.

if it was the pos cable from the battery to the fuse block the fuse wouldn't blow the short has to be after the fuse for current to go through the fuse to burn it. that is why ur main fuse and or breaker should be as close to the battery as possible to prevent the chance of a short before the fuse.

so heres the story now...

got some good info from LMS and think the short is being caused by the alternator. With it disconnected I now have no blown fuse, however now I have another problem.

I have power but some funky things are going on that I can't seem to get fixed.

A) as soon as I hook the battery up the fan kicks on.
B) the car won't even crank
C) the radio, ac blower won't work. headlights won't pop up. Power windows work in reverse (up is down and visa versa)

I've checked all fuses and ground to the battery. Even ran a set of jumper cables from the battery to the engine to ground the engine to check if it was a bad ground. I have no clue whats going on.

so I think I've found the problem. It came to me in a dream. "why would the windows be reversed? unless the feed was reversed." Then I remembered when i was checking the battery that I thought I remembered the volts being negative. So when I got up this morning I went down and checked. sure enough -12.4 . I compaired that to my other car 12.4 . I must have charged the battery backwards and reversed the poliarity. So as soon as Autozone opens I'm going to go change the battery and see if that fixs the problem.
