Cool My 7 is addicted to 100 octane gas

I gotta stop this madness. I take it out for a little drive and it BRGS me to take it for a fill up on 100 octane "racin' gas". She (my 7) says "Just one more tankful baby, please???"
I say I can't afford this habit and she says, "Oh P L E A S E, I promise I'll be good and show you what speed REALLY is."
Then I say, "OK, just once more and then that's IT".
So I fill her up with Unocal 76's best and WOOO! HOOO! She delivers and it's so nice zooming around the foothills of Vegas in my beauty as she gets high in 100 and I get high on the delicious fumes from that $4.29./gallon joy juice.
I just tickle the go pedal and we GO!. Then it's up a canyon and carving the turns to Mt. Charleston or Red Rocks or Parumph.

Is there a 12 step program for me and my 7 to help us kick this awful(ly good) habit?

My God $4.29 a gallon. That's what about $1.13 a litre. Which is around Aus$1.50 a litre

STRUTH that's a lot of money to pay for petrol. I get by around Aus$1.05 a litre for 98 octane. That's US$0.79 a litre, or around US$3 a gallon. Woohoo! Wouldn't put anything else in it.

Which brings me to my real question - what octane gas to most of you guys out there fill up on? I know turbocharged cars (particularly rotaries) like to suck higher octane juice.

Gasoline is rated differently in the US and Australia. We use the RON+MON/2 and you guys use just RON. Your 98 RON is about equal to our US 93 octane.

I used to live in Fullerton. I go to the high school that's nearby called Sunny Hills. I've never seen 100's before, but I guess it's because there's a gas station near my house and it's just convenient to just go there.

not alot, i always ran rich so nothing bad could happen, but that was for boost spikes.

100 octan wont hurt anything unless its low lead and u have cats. now running 93 octane while your tuned for 100 octane is VERY BAD. your motor wont last very long, so basicaly 100 octane will provide better engine life because its burn is more controlled.

Is there really a point? Does it even make a difference unless the car is pretty well modded? My idiot x-girlfriend filled mine up with 87 and I'd have never known had she not said anything... I said **** it and ran it through. No problems. Almost 5 bucks for a gallon? Uh... yeah..

Yeah, I get a kick out of it when folks claim to accidentally put higher octane gas in their cars and then, "Wow it was FAST!"

Unless you were knocking before or were tuned specifically to higher octane there should be no difference you can feel - just the warm fuzzy feeling that you can romp on it with relative impunity.

I have a feeling he's putting in the 100 octane then switching the boost controller to "high boost" .

A guy I knew back in the day used to keep a 55 gallon drum of race gas in his garage. He'd fill up half a tank of 93 octane, then fill up the rest of the way with the race gas. Good times.
