Smile My 12500 miles old spark plugs pics

History:

I bought the car with these, they were changed at the 30k miles service and I bought the car with 34k or so a year ago. It was completely untouched, all stock.

These spark plugs started in a stock car and have been through 12500 miles, including 3 long road trips, one flodding, bolt on performance upgrades, 3 dyno runs (315 ), one track day (IIRP) and one autox day (both at the Revo), 2 more autox'es, several (2+) club meetings to drive the twisties, 2 dragstrip runs, one drift day and a couple high speed highway runs...

I replaced them with RX-8 NGK Iridiums 9's all around

Here are the pics, I don't know which is front or rear because I got them mixed up.

the first leading one looks pretty worn out! the electrodes dont seem too worn out...i'd be more concerned with the ashy buildup but then again thats not that bad either.
Look up how to read the plugs, Haynes manuals have it on the back of their manuals. I'm not sure but i think the ash buildup is normal and my have something to do with additives in the fuel. I run 9s all around and most of the time when i change them they look like that(mine have a bit of carbon on them though - oil from the turbo i guess)

They look pretty worn. Does the car feel different with the new plugs?

i'm assuming you now have roughly 43k on the car....
the big question in my mind is, are you sure they were changed at the 30k service?

I have all the maintenance and repair receipts from the previous owner.

And yes, I have about 43k on her now.

car was running perfectly fine, I was reading about how quickly the plugs get worn and since I've been running her hard I decided to replace them...

you said since you cleaned them your car wont boost? if thats the case i have like 4 sets of older plugs (were on my t2, very low mileage, not even 50 on one set) i could ship them to you for cost of shipping, (4 bucks) if you want to try those see if your car boosts?

Yea, thats pretty amazing the way those plugs are. 12,500 is a lot of milage IMO for a rotary, amazed the other three lasted as well as they did. BTW Nice numbers, if you dont mind me asking, what sort of bolt ons were used on the car?

My plugs are changed every 2k with the oil if I can help it... kinda funny when I leave the dealer with 5 oil filters + drain plug washers and immediately head over to the Autozone to buy a stockpile of BERQ7/9's although I think once my engine is complete I'll be running 9's all around.

Spark plugs are pretty cheap man, I'd really recommend replacing those ones. Compare the flat edges of the electrode on a new plug, to the rounded-off ones in your photos:

Don't worry they're getting replaced, I just put them back to troubleshoot why the car wouldn't boost (it wasn't the plugs, it went into limp mode for some reason). I have NGK Iridiums 9 all around to replace them with.
