check the bolts on the water lines, to and from the turbos and back to the block. Any chance they are loose, allowing some very small amount of coolant to burn/steam off?

Just an idea even though you said it didn't have a coolant type smell. If it is the oil, and you smell gas with the smoke. Does your oil (via the oil cap) have the gas smell in it?
