Mother Freakin Aye!

I leant my buddy my car to run to the gas station....just to the gas station, not too far, nothing could happen right?! NO! He curb checks my car doing about 75!!!! WTF?! So now both my passenger side rims won't hold are aginst the tire. Both my front wheels are sitting with a NOTICABLE camber differenece. Both are angle outward, toward the passenger side. (driver sitting toward pass, and pass sitting toward the outside) My steering is totally frucked up, my steering wheel is upside down and i'm still going straight, and there is horrible vibration in the steering wheel. What all is frucked up? I don't know a whole lot about the front suspension on these cars. But i do know, i have very little steering, it any. I'm going to kill this guy. Anyone have any idea of what gets bent/snapped when hitting a curb going 75? I don't know how else to describe it. Say, my whole front end suspension shifted right (as your sitting in the car) hard core. He will pay, no doubt. But how can I go about diagnosing what is wrong?!

bad idea lending your mate your car, guess u wont do that again
i bet u felt like giving him a bit of a beatdown when he brought it back?
I would recommend to take it to a mechanic or suspension specialist to diagnois the problems.

Hey, I know just how you feel I had an almost identical thing happen, although it was my WRX not a 7. The damage bill came to 8,000 australian dollar, so about 6000 u.s. I needed all new front right suspension, chassis straightening, a new rim, new tyre, and the impact (at about 40mph) actually put a mild buckle in the roof. That was 8 weeks ago now, and the car still isn't properly fixed. My insurance has taken car of it, and I wish the car had've been written of becoz it doesn't feel quite the same now as before the accidnent.

Good luck getting it really well fixed, and be careful of driving it......

^ let's hope it doesn't lead to that Although, I'm thinking it'll total 6K in no time. The next question....should I report it to insurance?

hitting the curb @ 75mph? ouch... sorry dude good luck with the repairs. As far as damage assessment, any suspension part down there is fair game. If that was really your friend, he should be happy to pay for it. Cause if he doesn't i think you need to toss him out on the curb doing 75mph down the road...

My friend was on my insurance, so they took care of it al, he paid the excess of 550 also. And being a good friend he was VERY apologetic. If there is anyway to go via your insurance then make sure you do. The repairs for mine got messy, and needed to be redone, and it was my insurance company who stepped in to bat for me to make sure they were redone right. Infact, as I said the car still isnt 100% and is going to another repairer tommorrow morning to be fixed. If it wasn't for the isurance case manager it may have been much harder to get another repairer to redo the whole thing.

You'll may need new wheels, steering rack/rods, rear subframe, front and rear control arms, toe links, etc, and hopefully the frame of the car is still straight. But that might also need repaired.

Get that car towed to a professional collision repair shop. Only they can answer these questions for sure.

And he's not your friend. No friend of mine would wreck my car at 75mph.

Dave

This is so true. Even a stupid friend wouldn't do such a careless thing.

I think the car is insured, not the driver. In other words, it's Rotofire's insurance that would apply, though at the very least, the "friend" should cover the deductible. It sounds like it's going to be expensive.

He's more than happy to pay for most all the costs. But he's broke, and I know this. I've checked and my buddie's insurance won't cover it. My insurance will....(those damn black labs running out in the street) I went to look at it today and I can't notice anything completely broken (hanging down) Of course, I'm at a friends house (not the same one....he wouldn't had made it through the night) and he doesn't have a jack, so I can't see to much with the car on the ground. I do have a stut tower brace, so i beleive that helped alot...or just made matters worse, who knows? I've got it towed, but it's on it's way to Merchants Tire. They always do a pretty good job. I just got my tires aligned from them last week and their aligment is covered for a year...you think this voids it?! haha. I should just go in and be like....I hit some gravel, and now I think my camber is off. haha.

Dave, with all that possible damage, is it possible the car could be totalled. That seems like some major damage and major money. Sorry to hear that. I can't fathom letting someone else drive my car. I let my friend drive the 7 with me in it down the street and back and almost went into cardiac arrest. Too much stress, cause all it takes is overboosting and boom. Too risky. I now can't see a mechanic even pulling it in the bay for anything, that's why my head and hands are the only ones that touch and see that car. Safety. Plus I can deal with something I do, could not if someone else was at fault. Good luck.

That sucks. I side swiped a curb in my FC and it was on jacks in my garage for 4 months. I ended up replacing the whole suspension, brakes, rack and pinion etc. It even bent the spindle. Lesson learned, last time I gun it in the rain. I did all the work myself so it was a lot cheaper. Good luck!

Werd!!! It does'nt matter if it's a car, truck, motorcycle, jet ski, atv etc... everytime someone "borrows" something, the chances of destruction always seem to increase!

As long as you're covered with your insurance I'm sure everything will work out great. Maybe even better than before. Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the fiX! D

IMO, that's something you'll have to decide, after you get an estimate. I guess it might depend some on your age and claim history too. Maybe ask you agent what they think it'll do to your premiums.

It Doesn't look THAT bad from the pic, but the driver side is leaning too, so are the rears. I'm pretty sure it's going to the insurance company.

^looks pretty bad to me im sorry man.... and i feel for ya... i lent my car to a friend the other day and he hit a raccoon (though im still suspicious as to what REALLY happened) and then ran off the road... destroyed my front lip and damaged god-knows what else. the 7 doesnt do well off pavement.

needless to say NO ONE will ever drive my car again unless im riding shotgun.

i know its a lesson youve learned yourself... though yours is more expensive than mine.

let the company deal with it.

Start with getting an estimate. Don't say anything to your insurance until you get a ballpark figure. You definitely have a lot of broken suspension down there. That's a promise. You'd be amazed at how much Lower and Upper A arms, Toe links, and especially spindles can cost. Doesn't take long to total a car my friend. 75mph is obscenely fast on a road the has curbs. Frankly I think your friend is lucky to be alive and you're lucky that your 7 still resembles a car.
