Most mods on stock ecu?

I know you have heard it before but the car I just bought has 15k miles on it and I don't want to do much. I was thinking downpipe, exhaust and a k&n air filter w/stock air box mod. Will this be safe on stock ecu???
Rob.

yes and no. yes stock computer will handle fuel needs @10 psi. but you will definatly be boost spiking, promise you. there is a simple manual boost controler you can make in under 1/2 hour and costs >$20 to tune down your boost to a safe 10 psi. try useing the search button for it.
ps. put some money into reliability mods way before you think about performance mods.

im not sure, ive got the manual valves.
but, if i was going to throw $400 at it, i would hands down go for the apex-i one with the fully digital blue screen. costs a little more, but well worth it to get the graphs and graphics.

You should be fine as long as you are running the stock cat. However, make sure you have a boost gauge installed and make sure you don't start getting any large boost spikes.

You don't want a fuel cut defenser on the FD. Fuel cut is there to help protect you from running lean and/or detonation.

If you want to run higher levels of boost, you should upgrade the ECU.

It's never a bad idea to add a boost controller, however, most people prefer the Greddy Profec B.

Also, don't think that just because you have a boost controller on the car you can add what you want. For instance, a boost controller won't help you if you overloading the wastegate (from something like running a downpipe, midpipe and aftermarket catback).

If you are overruning the wastegate, there is nothing the boost controller can do about that. Basically, you are fine as long as you don't slap on a midpipe.

Well I was just worried about boost spikes. I am not imto racing but I like quick acceleration. So ALL I want is a downpipe, exhaust and stock air box modw/K&N filter.
Will this be safe on my cars stock ecu?

Yes, as long as you can keep the boost around stock levels (10PSI). I didn't have a problem with boost spikes or anything after doing a dp and catback, but some people do. Every car is different.

i had this set up from 35000miles to 55000miles

currently i have the pettit unlimted ecu and still on stock motor and turbos at 65000miles

Then what is the purpose for the upgrades? If you keep boost at 10psi,isn't that stock? The car will have the same pickup, right?

Nice quote man...
[to simplify it even more...blow hotter air (less dence) through a straw at 12psi or a 3in tube (cold air) at 10psi. more air can be "pushed through" a 3in tube than a straw.
think of an engine as a big air pump.
nathan explained it well and i dont know how else to dumb it down. (no offence)]

I just bought my first 3rd gen (completely stock) a little over a month ago and have been doing research on upgrades. There is much debate on the "rule of 3' for 3rd gens. After three mods, such as intake, dp, and catback, some say the stock ECU can not compensate for the increased air flow and thus the car will lean out under WOT. Before going any further, you will have to have an ECU reprogrammed or go for PFC or other computer upgrade.

The whole point is I don't want to go any further. I actually like the car the way it is, but I feel doing these 3 mods will make the engine last longer and run better. Does everyone agree??
