Most expensive stock FD
I would like to think mine would be in the running if it was for sale.
1994 R2 Vintage Red, VIN after clutch improvement by Mazda.
2x,xxx Miles. Driven just the right amount if you ask me. Not too MUCH, not too LITTLE, but ALL adult owned. The car has probably never been past 75 mph.
BONE stock (even exhaust and intake is original) everything works on it. I have two sets of aftermarket wheels for it because the originals with the original tires are sitting in the garage where they won't get screwed up.
Kept in Heated & Cooled garage under both a light weight dust cover and a heavy duty cover.
Never ONCE been in the rain. Have all the original "stuff" (manual, etc....).
I won't drive it if it is HOT, COLD, or SUNNY (we know FD Paint is horrendous).
Hell, I finally decided to just quit inspecting it because it was nerve wracking allowing someone else to be around the car.
There are certainly others with lower mileage but I would doubt many have been treated like this one has.... I feel guilty not driving it more often and never driving it hard, but oh well. Hopefully I won't have to find out what the market value is anytime soon....hopefully....

As to the OP's original question, the most I have ever seen stock FD go for was about $25k (on eBay if I remember) but that was well over six months ago when credit was cheap. I think selling any FD for over $16-$17k in this market would be hard. Finding FDs with asking prices above that is easy, but that is another story.
The fact that the cars are selling well below sticker, shows that they have not depreciated as fast as your average accord, but have not seen any kind of value increase like a Shelby Cobra. A Vehicle will always be worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it, and untill the demand far outweighs the supply (see original aluminum Cobra) the price won't approach the original selling price, because no matter how many miles it has on it. "it rolled of the lot" and therefore is "Used" ... and carries depreciation....
I have to agree with Gordon on this. Two-tiered pricing with a bunch of cars at the lower end and a few nicely maintained at the higher range.
Regarding the Barrett Jackson auction, the most a 13B FD sold for was in 2006 for $30,250. This was a mint condition FD with lots of Pettit "upgrades". Another mint FD went for $17,600 also in 2006. In 2007, the best the FD did was about $25,000 and this was a tricked out Rockford Fosgate car. Ugly IMO, but it did sell for $25,300. The other FD available then went for $14,300.
None have been for sale since then at Barrett Jackson.

Trust me thats not just gray. Im getting my car painted that color. Its really complex and shows of the curves of the car. You really need good lighting to see it though. It looks awful under flourescent lights.
Also about the Barrett Jackson auctions, I thought I saw a triple rotor go for 60k. Is that the Rockford Fosgate car you speak of? The paint on the car reminded me of a viper.
I don't know what your point is.
They retailed new for ¥4,000,000.
In the last months of 2002 (when the Spirit R was on sale), the USD was worth ¥123.
That equated to USD$32,520.
Since then, the USD has tanked against the yen.
Today, ¥4M would cost you USD$44,500.

Oh.. well I've never seen it in person. Just thought it was a normal gray. Guess I need to see one now!

We have Spirit-R's in NZ as well, probably the best quality one i know of has around 5,000km (3,100mi) on the clock and is a Type-A (the 2 seater model)
They're the only ones here that would be worth upwards of/over US$30k - In stock form, you couldn't get more than US$10k for any other FD here.

The SSM 95 R2 w/ 27k miles I have now sold on ebay for 30k twice before I bought it but that was 2 years ago.
2 years later and 8k more miles and closer to a stock setup I think it's worth 20k to get rid of it and 25k to the right buyer.
The key here is if I wanted to sell I'd price it to sell and that would be 20k which is really it's true value which to me is what it would sell for in a relatively short period, say 30 to 60 days. If you price your FD at X amount and you don't have strong interest in 30 days you need to adjust your price. It's very VERY easy to sell these cars if priced correctly and this is from someone who's bought and sold 80 plus.
So with all that said I don't think there are any US FDs even 3 rotor cars that would sell for 30k in todays market.
The MB car w/ 5k miles has been heavily marketed at 28k and nobody is willing to buy it. Personally I'd buy so many other cars for that price before buying a 15 year old FD and I'm a very enthusiastic FD guy. I actually offered him 23k back in the fall but at this point I wouldn't even pay that for it.
