Mods Too lean for Automatic Trans?

Can someone help me figure out how to be sure not to overmodify my Automatic FD without making it run too lean.

I have a M2 Cat Back and installing an M2 downpipe. I also am putting in Racing Beat's air box intake and K&N filter along with a pill in the turbo line to limit it to 9# boost.

My dilema, It was recommended to me to replace the main cat with a hi-flow cat, but I remember I've been told by M2 and Pettit that this would cause my car to run too lean. Since you can't get a replacement chip for the AT's, does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to replace the main cat if it's going to give me that extra kick, but I don't want to waste the motor!

Well, that's a hard one to answer. I know people that have successfully run a FULL exhaust with no ECU. But every car is different. I know 2 mod cars that have popped. I would recommend a high flow cat... BUT: It's probably much safer if you get an ECU first.

And I think you can get an ECU... Like a PFC, but I'm not familiar with Autos.

im running D/P, High flow cat, exhaust, and apex intake on my auto. maybe im just lucky but everytime im in WOT my boost never rises above 10 psi, and the LED on my A/F gauge is always deep into the rich area. i may just be an exception...

The problem with replacing the stock ECU for Autos is that you lose some functionality (like the HOLD).

You can use piggy-back ECU's (one that works with the stock ECU) like the AEM (or even the PFS piggy-back I think) for Autos. Anyway, to answer your question, the stock ECU will provide enough fuel for bolt on mods "as long as you keep the boost at stock levels". If you can keep the boost at 9-10 PSI, you will be fine.

Some more info on the PFS unit:
