Modified Magazine Cover Story: FD Testing Event Virginia International Raceway
David,
I'm regretting not attending now. I assumed Modified didn't want anymore of my car and the AZ trip took me out of work for a while. Some of us still have to work for a living
.
Sorry about your car problems. I'll keep an eye open for the Fall.
Take care.

I think the hard braking and G's as you throw the car into the corners definitely plays a role.
^ Hi Bobby. You'll definitely need to make it in the fall. It was one of the best times I've had at an event. Just a nice laid back atmosphere with an open track, can't get better than that
We are going to improve upon the experience for the fall event. Roger on this forum has offered his PCA expertise so we will take what went well (and there is a lot of that) and then add in more to make it better. We are thinking of 1) t-shirts with forum and real names on them for attendees, 2) a more detailed track instruction period and instructors for those that haven't been out on the track or out at all, 3) flag station personnel - thought VIR would provide this but the stations were not manned and we had more than a few cars spin out which could have been a bad thing, and 4) setting up a food station/grill for something like hamburgers and hotdogs.
I'm sure we will come up with an event that will be one of the best around so stay tuned. And on the work thing, I know what you mean, it's back to full-time work for me as a professor of entrepreneurship at Western Carolina University this fall.

Yea, not sure what it is about "riding" that's much more of challenge. Rode with a friend of mine in his track prepped NSX a few years back and had a similar reaction. 10 minute session was about 3 minutes too long for me. Fortunately I held it together after the ride, but it was close... if you know what I mean...

........ I got plus the amazing elevation changes VIR has. My very 1st ride was in the white Ls1 fd. Its was blazingly fast but got a little loose around the S turn section of the track because he was on street tires and no downforce. I knew right away that ride was gonna get a little hairy. That S turn is something crazy as it's a steep quick left/right downhill turn followed by a quick hair pin. That ride set the tone for me the rest of the afternoon. Then I rode with Fritz later with his stickly tires and all his down force and was amazed at the speed he was able to carry during that same turn. It was like the worlds longest funnest rollercoaster ride.

Spoke with the Modified Magazine guys today and they had a great time. Said the passion of the community was evident and they loved the ride alongs. Will definitely come back next time.
They also sent along a few sample pics of the event. Enjoy!

Looks like I need stiffer springs.
...and a spacer to drop the splitter a bit,
...and something better than white duct-tape to control my oil temps.
Sweet pictures, none the less.

A new PPF which I definitely should of thought about after the diff was moved over about 2 inches to the left. I just thought the new LSD diff was a little clunky but it got worse and worse and the shifter was moving around so much I had to watch it out of the corner of my eye just to grab the damn thing LOL
New engine (compression is silly low) and that 300 HP dyno was flat out embarrassing
Exhaust leak etc....
My oil temps are too high so that's just one more problem for PFS to tackle.............. I wish I had Bill's problem the lucky bastard hehe
OH and lets not forget about the exhaust leak etc...etc...
Pete you are squatting just a little bit there. I say 900 all the way around or 1000 front 900 rear
However, WARNING, DO NOT drive in the rain LOLOnce again I have to say the modified guys were super fun to hang with and can't wait to check out the article and if it's about the passion we have for the RX7 Joseph will have plenty to write about.
David's car alone is a testament to the love/$$$$$$ (yep six dollar markers cause he's well into 6 figures) this car can ring out of person and it's an absolute phenomenon how passionate FD owners in general can become. He's taking his car to a specialist down in FL and will be staying there as an advocate for his baby during the surgery, the guy's INSANE, it's beautiful and I love it

Look at all the build threads on this forum there are probably 3 3 rotor threads going right now it's simply AWESOME stuff, I say GD I love this car!
We need a 4 rotor build. The FC thread has one and I've never seen anything like it before. Mazda has to love all the continued development of it's cars and engines. I hope they take notice.
Hmm the Austin area is a good spot being centrally located in the US. Most of these big rotary get togetters are either on the west coast (Sevenstock) or east coast (Dgrr). Plus it's only 5 hrs from me. Someone should put something together.

Even large HPDE programs are not given a green light.
At one point the track reps said NO hpde stuff at all.
That is why I like the pics, makes it seem like my 80 MPH was the same as you guys going 150 MPH
FYI, diagnostic surgery completed on the FD. Result is 2 cracked corner seals on the center housing causing the engine suck problems. Rotors and housings in good shape and the RA Suoer Seals did not gouge anything. Good news day for sure
