Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec?

Going synthetic this weekend. Hear a lot about mobile 1 , but was wondering about syntec since I've always loved Castrol. Any opinions appreciated. Also, when I switch how often should I do my oil changes? Thanks.

this is true, im in the same boat you are in slippery. i love castrol and it takes quite a bit of work for me to not use it, but mobil 1 is by far superior to castrol syntec. it is still good, but not AS good.

I can't stand castrol. I believe thats horrible oil, IMO. I have used a lot of different brands. I find VR1 Valv. 20w-50 to be the best dino, and well a synthetic.....is a synthetic.

Why don't you like Castrol? I can say I don't like a certain brand but I don't necessarily have any data to back it up. I wouldn't consider passing my opinion on to someone else as advice in that scenario..

Amsoil did some testing. I saw the results. castrol tested well for reg dino. If I would use castrol for dino, but if you're going to syn...mobil 1.

I use 15w50 in the texas summers and 10w30 once it cools off. I try and change every 2k miles or so. I noticed on my power fc commander that my engine coolant temps went down a solid 5 degrees C across the board, so it definitely makes a difference.

You might want to check Wal-Mart for Mobil1; the one near me sells 5 quart jugs of Mobil1 for 18 bucks.

Well that's why I said IMO, there fore he would know it was an opinion. I passed it on because I had bad experiences with it. That alone is better proof than any paper or individual can tell me. I always diagnose my oil after changing it, it's a good insite to how your engine is doing, wether it's eating it up, metel flakes, milky, or wether it died out real quick. I guess another IMO is due.

Castrol Syntec is NOT a true synthetic. It's a highly refined dino oil that meets or exceeds the API ratings for synthetic motor oils.

If you're going to run synthetic, run Royal Purple SAE grade full synthetic. You can mail order it from Jegs (www.jegs.com) for under $5 a qt. They also make a race version which is non SAE and good for those weekend racers. Their head tech races a rotary, btw, so they have plenty of experience.

Mobil 1 all the way. I would run Royal Purple, or give it a try. But I like being able to get my oil with out having to order it over the internet.

You can get Royal Purple at any Napa Auto parts store for the same price as Mobil 1. That's what I'm going to run once my new motor is broken in. RacingBeat has done tests on it and found it to actually increase HP. Here is a link to a thread I posted a while back.

Hey you all, Thanks for the great advice. It'll be royal purp. or mobil 1, for sure. How often should I change it though. My car is a daily driver, and has been for two years. I've always changed it every 1000-1500 miles. Certainly I should get longer life without worry.

By the way, as for Castrol, IMO its been the best for me in my past vehicles. I've tried them all, and upon inspection as well as daily preformance it was always the clear winner. But as I said, thats simply my experience. Thanks again for all the input.
