Misfiring + High HC's = Power Losses I'm not aware of?
Misfiring + High HC's = Power Losses I'm not aware of?
I made an earlier post about my smog issues and my HC's after doing a Preliminary Smog Check just to see what my numbers would look like. The Smog Check resulted as follows:
HC (PPM):
15 mph: measured: 1002 max allowable: 88 Gross Polluter: 275
25 mph: measured: 894 max allowable: 53 Gross Polluter: 225
CO %:
15 mph: measured: 4.88 max allowable: 0.52 Gross Polluter: 2.02
25 mph: measured: 6.83 max allowable: 0.50 Gross Polluter: 2.00
I do have the smog "taken care of" so for those of you who are suggesting smog places and the like, thanks, but its all done. In any event, I am wondering why the numbers are so incredibly high, and many have been telling me that it is a misfire problem. If this is the case, what do I to check to figure out the misfiring? And moreover, know which coil pack, wire, plug, etc. I am wondering how to diagnose the problem.
Secondly, I am also wondering if any other factors may be affecting this condition, or if it something that comes with the territory of the modifications that I have. (see signature for mod list). I do know that the exhaust gas is supposed to be a bit on the rich side, but I don't know how much of each element is supposed to be present, and in what according amounts. And if I do manage to fix the problem, will I need to retune? I assumed that the tuner (XS Engineering...I know, don't let this thread get into a big debate over tuning please) made sure that the ignition was firing well enough to tune on, but ya never know. Unfortunately I don't have the PFC commander, so I don't really have much of an idea.
