Mileage vs. RPM

I heard one FD owner say that the FD gets better mileage at 4k RPM's than it does at 3k. Something about the rotors and turbos, etc. Now, that goes against all my logic as a mechanical engineer. I want to clear it up once and for all... Is his statement true?

Just do a little math with injector pulse widths and the injector size. That can almost tell you what kind of mileage you will get. If his ECU is richer at 3k than at 4k then that is highly possible.

I used to get 14MPG blasting around town at 7psi. Although that was with a Haltech.

I would say no. The secondary injectors come on at 3K decreasing mileage. It would be an easy thing to test though.

I think that the fuel maps become a lot richer around 3200 RPM. I think that you're gas mileage really suffers over that. But then again, if you drive an FD, why are you worried about gas mileage?

Because it is my daily driver and gas here in the midwest is the most expensive in the country. I don't care what car you drive, reoccuring high costs always hurt.

I have a Power FC and reference my Commander often while driving. Lucky for you, one of the parameters I look at is Injector Duty Cycle :p

It seems like cruising at ~2500 rpms yields the best gas mileage. Anything below 3k is ok. One thing I remember hearing is torque load occurs trying to accelerate from low rpms (in any gear other than first of ocurse) so it's better do downshift then try to floor it from 2k.

FYI, my Power FC increased my average mpg from 12 to a consistent 17. Buy a Power FC; it'll pay for itself eventually :p

Goodfellas,

Thanks for the advice. I am new to all this. What is torque loading? Is it bad?

What are some other advantages to a Power FC?
