might sell 95fd help me decide
i would either get a
WRX
SRT-4
mazdaspeed protege
focus SVT
sentra SE-R Vspec
or a camaro SS
or i could drive my FD into the ground all summer
i just cant afford to fix it anymore on 18yo income
the compression is middle of the run
the main cat is dead
the muffler is rusted out
the shocks are dead
id have to fix it b4 selling it anyways
what do you guys think
id love to keep it but i think it would be better off with a richer owner

Well if you can't maintane it then let someone who can get the car. I'd sell it. My gf has the Mazdaspeed Protege. It's not ***** out fast but in a turn it sticks very VERY well for a FWD car. It's peppy good gas mileage, plus it's a Mazda piston engine and they are very good. Great interior and amazing sound system. It does have a 'clunk' but in my gf's car it went away and very rarely peeks it's head and when it does it's not noisy enough to be annoyed with it. Looks are AMAZING to me anyways. Always get's compliments.
WRX another good choice but I hate working on trannys and they are just as expensive as engine work and I do not know to much on transmission work. AWD scares me on repairs. Other than that, it's quick. It is laggier than I expected but all around good car. Turbos seem to go out fast and the windshield cracks really easy.
Focus, not a fan of economy Ford products at all. Mediocre performace, straightline falls a little short of the Mazdaspeed and can't handle as well and for damn sure doesn't look as good.
Sentra, has always been a good all around car and the SE-R is no exception. It handles well, I love the interior and the performance is mediocre around the times of the SVT and the MSP. Car looks decent, not a WOW! eye catcher but does the job. I don't have any experience with Nissan reliability but I assume it's on par.
Camaro SS, Power, Power, Power at least with an LS1, If an LT1 you need some mods to keep up on the highway with a turbo car. Seems to be reliable but I have heard horror stories about the engines going out at 45k-75k but I assume those are people racing the **** out of them and not maintaning them. It's got gobs of torque so you will fell your speed. Camaro's aren't known for their handling but when I had one be it a lame *** 1990 RS 305, the handling suprised me, a lot better than a straight axel GT. This car is not a looker and the interior is well, GM. Has a strong aftermarket for the LT1 and LS1. This would be MY choice of the bunch because the only import car I'd ever own would be the RX7 Turbo or the MK4 TT.
SRT-4, I don't know too much about this car. I haven't even seen one in real life yet. I have seen vids and heard peoples testimony. So so far I heard it pulls like banshee. Looks are average. Interior is ok but neonish(lol). Who knows about the build quality with a Dodge product, so I'll give it some time for the motors to get used and abused before I give praise or bad mouth it. Seems like a great car for under 20k that's a straight line competitor right out the box, kudos to Dodge.
Everything that was said was said soley in my opinion.

repairs on the E36 will rival those of the FD... get the MazdaSpeed Protege and call it a day, that car is a bad *** and i would love to have one if i was in the market for that type of car.
the other one i would consider is the SRT4, but they are selling with huge dealer mark-ups and i would wait to see how they hold up after a year or so before i get a turbo dodge.

i would consider the srt4 as well... i drove it around a little auto-x track type of deal, and it was quick and kind of fun.... quicker, but couldn't handle my fc as well.... have you considered going with an fc? a turboII? or if you're really worried about maintenance, you could get a ported n/a...

18 years old with a 95 FD? Damn. Do whatever you have to do to keep the car--sell your internal organs if need be. That's what I'd do if I were you. I bought my R1 almost 5 yrs ago when I was 21 and I plan on being buried in it

Stokedxiv if you've had a different experience, which I assume you have to make such a statement, please share it with us.
It's a great car don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It has torque, terrific handling, german quality (nice leather smell ect ) and a great inline 6 soundtrack.

i had an 1995 e36 m3 that i drove from 40k to 110k miles and the upkeep was nothing compared to an fd. in my experience, the cars are almost unbreakable from a mechanical standpoint. the expense comes in when you look for aftermarket parts. i think most vendors see bmw and charge a premium based on the assumption that owners have lots of $$. i've spent more on maintenance for my fd in the last 6 months than i did on the bmw in 2 years. i guess i'm just saying: don't be afraid from a reliability standpoint.

Sell the car Barban. You'll probably be better off in the long run. The SRT-4s are fast for the bucks but I wouldn't trust Dodge build quality and I doubt there's much room for improving the performance with how much boost they're already running (if you care). Pick up a Mazdaspeed Protege, if you can find one. The Protege's have very good reliability and the Mspeed handles very nice.

ive been readin EVERYTHING and heres what i know
the SE-R vspec has a lot of aftermarket
the mspeed protege has basically none
nismo is hinting of a turbo kit for the SER
the mspeed uses that tiny *** T25 pushing only ~7# of boost
here are my questions
what can the mspeed ecu handle boost wise?
what can the turbo handle?
where is the aftermarket?
does the internal wastegate on the mspeed suck as bad as the one on our rex's?
i hate the wrx and the srt4

I failed to mention earlier that the Mspeed Protege is probably not upgradeable very much because they kept the stock engine internals.
In all seriousness, I don't think you should be modding a car that you are buying because you can't afford the upkeep on your FD. Once you do anything to the engine, your warranty is void, so you're going to be left in the same situation you're in now. IMO, just get a car that's fast enough and leave it alone until you can afford to pay for "mistakes".

I'm with barban, I'd upgrade a minivan if I had one. I think any car you get will probably be upgraded in some way, so you should get a car that when upgraded it still maintains its reliablity without much maintence. I heard the WRX don't really need much in terms of car, and are pretty fast stock. If I were you I'd probably go that route.

or get yourself a cheap car, that is easily modded and such. For example, i know the parts and stuff for a talon - 1st gen or 2nd gen are ... well.. atleast cheaper than an FD. Perhaps you need to think "outside the box". WHile your pt about modding to personalize makes lots of sense, you are voiding your warranty, which is almost liek throwing away a $2000 or $3000 or whatever dollars... since there is value to that warranty. If the dealer sold you a brand new Mazdaspeed protege without a warranty, it would be $x000 cheaper.
ANyways, maybe a cheap talon for $5k, and mod the hell out of it for a lot less than it would cost for FD. NOt to mention, those engines are rock solid- and initial cost is a lot less than... FD, supra, etc...
just my 2 cents...

Im confused about something.....You want to sell your FD because you cant afford to own it but somehow you have the money to buy a totally new car and modify it on top of that? selling your FD isnt going to get you a wad of cash big enough to buy most if not all of the cars youre considering.
