Might get rid of my current car for an RX7, should I?
Currently i have a 2004 SRT-4 and i am pretty close to paying it off and im looking to buy an RX7 i know some of the more common things that go wrong with them like overheating and the seals being too weak so I thought i would ask the owners of the FD if it is worth selling my car to get an RX7 or not? also why or why not if you could. please no smart remarks im just looking for a good reliable answer thank you.
Absolutely with out a doubt.
not to bust on your Neon, but its a Neon.
Sure you can make it kinda quick, but it still the minor leagues.
comparing a neon and FD is like comparing a timex to a Rolex.
Granted the FD maybe a little more finicky, but with good care and a little
TLC. It will be fine.

I myself would never buy a Neon to begin with and with out a doubt sell if for an FD. However I personally wouldnt and dont use my FD as a daily driver. These cars arent the most reliable, and require lots of attention. Since i bought mine, i have been constatnly working on it and i still have lots to do.
If you have to ask about seals and overheating, then you havent done your homework. If I were you, I would really do some research on the car and decide for yourself if this is the best car for you.
Goodluck

well what are some good reliablity modifications i could do to the FD? the one im looking at purchasing has a brand new motor in it along with 3MM apex seals, and its street ported, it also has intakes, downpipe, and a catback on it. i was also thinking of adding a turbo timer, Apex'i power FC, boost controller, FMIC, and oil coolers, engine damper, and a transmission brace is that good? sorry for all of the questions i just want to get it all planned out so when i get the car i can go through a list and get the things i need to get it running

first off where in ohio are you located? close to cincy?
Second the answer to your question. As far as reliablitly goes, the place where most people make their mistake is inceasing air flow without increasing fuel. This is the easiest way to blow your engine since rotarys are very particular about A/F mix. Best mod you could do with the mods you have now is that apex power fc and getting it tuned. You might also want to think about an upgraded radiator to cool underhood temps, the fan mod (do a search) and ast removal or replacement (also search).
Have you checked out these sites? These are really helpful and should be able to help you a lot!

i wouldnt do it
a quick *** car from factory with a warranty? where do i sign up?
sure its a "neon" but trust me, when you want to go fast and not having any problems, the looks and attention from having an fd cant replace that..

Ditto on the second car. I would only get one if you like to work on cars or if there is a rotary shop near your town. The sequential turbo system is a challenge to work on and used rubber hoses to control it. These hoses on the majority of these cars (even on my 93 with 60K miles) are brittle and you can left trying to trouble shoot a problem from a cracked hose for a long time. I am up for challenges as I have rewired my house and remodeled my kitchen, and I really don't have a good grasp on the system.
The car is fun to drive so it is worth work you put into it is worth it. Not just a little fun, but near perfection on a twisty road. Even when left completely stock.
I have take the stock route and my car is pretty reliable. It has broken down (been trailered) 3 times in 30K miles for odd things. A ball joint failed, I filled the trans with too much fluid which leaked on the exhaust and smoked, and I destroyed one clutch (disc was in 4 pieces).
Try your best to buy for condition and not for price.

Neon or FD? Pretty easy answer: OF COURSE TRADE, if you can.
I would buy a stock FD or Reliability modded FD first. That way you can mod it as you learn about which mods are smart and in which order to do them. If you buy something already modded you don't know exactly what has been done, or which brand, or what the spcs are, or who did it, and a year later you will join the group of people whining about it never running.

2004 srt-4, is it a rattle trap?
Reason I asked is that I rented a neon when the rx-7 clutch was being replaced. The less that one year old neon was a rattle trap.
Felt great to have the rx-7 back.

The rx-7 feels like a true sports car. Drive one and you will be hooked. How it hugs the turns, how the car sinks low as the aero dynamics of the design take over past 120 MPH, how you are on fourth gear and approaching 140 MPH and the car still pulling...
Drive one as a daily driver and you will regret it.
