Metal Coolant Pipe Removal?
Metal Coolant Pipe Removal?
G'Day boys,
I've got a quick question for you:
Can one safely block off the small outlet on the bottom of the water pump housing and the plastic quick connector on the rear iron?
My car is track only and runs no heater. I've removed the metal pipe that runs along the firewall and just wanted to check if I can just blank off the 2 places that this pipe used to connect to as I'm wanting to remove all points of failure in the cooling system. Also wanting to keep hoses, etc to a minimum.
Would like confirmation on this from someone with personal experience please.
Cheers.

You could in effect do that. Just make sure you cap them well. I wouldn't trust a rubber cap, if your a track guy, I would suggest have the two pipes welded shut. That way you know they will "more than likely" never fail.
Thanks for the reply but have you personally done this and can you confirm no ill effects as a result?
I'm planning on doing what I did with the other pipes I blanked off such as the AWS, JB weld inside the pipe and thick rubber cap over the top with hose clamp. Haven't had a failure using this method after 4 years of tracking the car. Or yes, I may weld them up.
Any gurus on race prepped FDs offer any comments please?

Might ask Mr Shaw, spoke to him the other week, does it as a matter of course for the rear, can't remember what he does, or if I asked, for the front outlet....probably weld.
If the engine is out, you can tap the complete rear steel/plastic fitting out of the plate - think copper hammer and minimal force! - and insert an interference fit plug.
