Exclamation Me and my boost controller

Ok my car only has a downpipe.

I was thinking that I was getting the low boost (7-5-7) because there are no pills in the lines to the wastegate and precontrol so I installed a “Home Depot” manual boost controller on the line to the wastegate because that would make up for there being no pill(correct me if i am wrong). Welllll that didn’t do anything, the valve is 3/4 of the way closed and there has been no change in boost. What’s goin on?

My turbos are going bad (smoky and leaky) and they will be replaced soon. Could they be almost dead? Is that why it is getting crappy boost and not responding to the controller?

-thanks, Adam

that's probably the reason. However you could try and switch the connectors on the precontrol and wastegate. They are the 2 solenoids bolted on the upper intake manifold, behind Pressure chamber.

Just switch the electirc connectors around and see if it makes any change.

7-5-7 sounds suspiciously like wastegate spring pressure only. However, if you put the valve in there it should be increasing your boost. Are you sure you put the valve in the right line? If you put it in the precontrol line, changing it might give you the results you're seeing, or rather the lack of results you're seeing. That still begs the question as to why 7 psi. Without the pills, you should still boost beyond 7 (right? Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I've never run with just lines and no pills). I think that should make your boost build more slowly, but I don't THINK it should impact your overall maximum so much. The duty solenoids are what allow the boost to build up beyond the 7psi spring pressure, but venting off some of the building pressure at the wastegate actuator.

Here's a thought, check the electrical connections to the wastegate and precontrol duty solenoids. They look the same and are right next to each other. There should be a white dot on one of them and the corresponding connector, but for some reason dealers love switching those for no reason.

The valve is on the line coming from the actuator closest to you when looking down at the engine. One high and the other lower and to the left.

I will check out these sneaky solenoids also.
