is it me at fault or the car?

hi peoples have just picked up my first rx7 type r efini twin turbo, now i understand the time money and efforts you guys put into the car this car is one of a kind.not sure what happend on the way back engine has been rebuilt and has coverd about 250 miles i have been told not to go over 4000rpm for the first 500miles which i have stuck too as its under 12month warranty, but was at about 3000rpm and put my foot down in fourth gear and it takes a while to get up to speed do you think this gear was to low for the revs it was at,also has an occasional misfire the car is a 1992 unmodified apart from the rear exhaust box any ideas would be greatly welcomed.

stock turbos should boost 10psi easily at 3000 rpm. It could be something as simple as a loose boost coupling/hose or it could be complicated to track down the problem with a solenoid or actuator.

The 7 doesn't fail you. You fail the 7.

If you haven't completed the break in period why are you putting your foot in it in 4th gear. Get through that first before try figuring out if there's a problem. It will be a tough fight (getting them to cover the warranty)if you damage the motor before you even get through the break in.

At 3000 rpm, your car isn't going to have much power.

You should wait for the break-in period to boss out the engine, but a better gear to make any kind of assessment of the turbo performance would be third gear. I would not expect a giant response at 3000 rpm in 4th gear.

I find 4th can be a bit unresponsive, try in second and these cars pop from the exhaust (misfire as you say) alot. Its actually part of the design with a factory air pump, too much fuel, and alot of heat. Adds character!

If it reads zero or really close to zero at idle, it's probably the oil pressure sensor having a poor connection. I clean the contact on the sensor on a yearly basis. No biggie. And stay out of boost!

Just out of interest, who did your rebuild? I only ask as I am in the UK (Sussex) and recently had my engine rebuilt and would be interested to compare.
