I'll take 3. No BS. Please pm me whatever info I need to buy these and what dealership you work at. Hopefully you are correct but I'm pretty sure you are quoting reman prices. Either way I will take 3 if they are new engines. Even give you a nice kick back.

I bought one from Malloy in 2004 for $2750 with a core. That engine had a lot of new parts. You're telling me that Mazda is selling new engines for less than what they used to sell 7 years ago given that the Yen has appreciated against the US? I don't think so. I will bet you that these are actual reman probably from parts taken from the RX8 engine issues. Back in October, I called Ray and it was $4200 with a core plus $400 in shipping charges 2-way from VA to CA. I elected to go with Howard Coleman by shipping him 2 blown Malloy motors. Even then it's still around $3100 with this route.

 

That's about the cheapest I've seen....

 

Welcome back Jeff. Tim here from Phoenix. We spoke a few years back when you were selling your CYM and building a home in Eugene. You're CYM restore still has to be one of the best threads of all time. Glad to see you back on the boards. We had a friend in common here in Phoenix (Brian Jackson) who has since sold all of his old school rotary stuff and has moved on to hybrid electric racecars!

 

To answer a question for Jeff, I know he prefers putting a Mazda reman in a car he's fixing up since it has a warranty and has the Mazda name associated with it. Someone looking to buy a car will know it's a good engine if it's from Mazda, not an engine that some dude rebuilt himself with dodgy parts.

Thanks everyone, it is good to be back and good to see some names I recognize, some from the FC list back in 1997. I sat in the car last night pretending to drive it like it a 10yr old, can't wait to get it on the road.

Dale hit it on the head. In years past Mazda remans were given a bad name but the remans I bought had for the most part new rotor housings with updated oil injectors and lasted a while. I know that at least a few rebuilders bought them as a cheap way to get a new motor for porting. Short story my experience with them was good, I installed 5 or so and had 3 FDs with remans in them.

I plan to keep this car for awhile but in the end I may sell it and it is a no-brainer for any buyer that buys a car with a new motor vs. a rebuilt by some unknown (in their mind) rebuilder.

I called my local dealer, they wanted $5981 for a motor, Ray was $4200 as stated earlier. Sweet!
