Mazda FD3 discontinued parts ?

I haven't gotten a chance to get up to mazda, but I was just wondering if there is a list of parts, such as interior, exterior, engine and misc. that are no longer made for our 3rd gens.

b/c I need quite a few oddball things, that no one seems to have for sale ever in the for sale section.

Thanks,

Scott

I called Mazdaformance about getting a drivers side door harness (front harness that controls the mirrors, locks, windows for passenger side). They told me they have been phased out.

Mazda no longer sells the red leather seating surface for the 1994 touring model.

And I was told that they only have 3 left of the R1/R2 rear spoiler in the country. After that, no more.

they are suppose to make parts for cars for 10 years after the last car was made, which is 1995 so 2005...

Cant imagine that they are "supposed to make parts for cars for 10 years after the last car was made" as how would they determine the rate to make parts at? What I do believe they do is make an estimate for 10 years ahead and make those items and store them. Just doesnt sound right that they would use up space in factories for discontinued cars for 10 years, thuogh I suppose they very well could.

I'm thinking that parts that are the same as those on the JDM (right hand drive) models would be available. Just the same, if I ever get the room for storage and the opportunity to buy a parts car at a reasonable price....

The interior plastic panels in the '93 finish aren't available either...you can get the '94 and later textured finish, but it won't match unless you replace them all.

skunks is correct about the 10 years. That is why sometimes there are not aftermarket parts available until after 10 years. Like a aftermarket fuel injector or relay for certain cars. Until the 10 years is up, the factory does not have to provide specs on the parts so aftermarket companies can make a replacement. I went through this on one of my other cars (can't remember which one), where I couldn't find a part at a parts store because only the factory carried it. It was like a relay or something. If I am wrong someone let me know.

I had to get a nut that holds the hood in place at the hinges and there were only 5 in the country.

A manufacturer only has to have parts available while the vehicle warranty is still in place. Obviously they will make them longer than that simply to sell to the public. Generally an aftermarket company will base their decision on the number of UIO and probably of part failure to determine whether or not to proceed with the venture of making a part(s) for a particular vechicle.

no, I just decided to bypass the harness. My powerlocks on the passengerside did not work, so I routed the lock/unlock wires from inside the door to the relay inside the driverside kick panel.

thanks for askin'.

Just because they say that those are the last few in the country dosent mean they are all gone. Just means that they have to import more in if you need them. Also they may just tell you that to get the sale.

I worked in a Toyota parts department for a while. Pretty much scammed every customer we had. Toyota sucks.

dont be so sure. I went to the home depot to get the nuts that hold the exterior door handles (the two inside nuts) and they have a special angle to the threads, so they were a factory part. I LOVE MAZDA

there are no "special angle threads" on the car. i have never found a bolt that i couldnt pick up at the hardware store or mr metric. here are the sizes used on the car:

m4 x .75
m5 x .8
m6 x 1
m8 x 1.5
m12 x 1.5
m12 x 1.75

the only one that wasnt easy to find was the fine pitch m12.

also arent car manufacturers required to make the parts for 10 years after the last model year of the car.

I thought it was 20 years they had to have parts for the car available instead of 10 years. I also thought it was just parts that are required for the car to run towards the end of the 20 year period .

Special angle? Damn ZB, what ARE you smokin' these days? (Hey, has anyone seen my crack pipe?)

Go to a large ACE Hardware, just about every common fastener you need is there, including every nut on an FD3S, AND in stainless.

Well, actually they don't have the nuts that match the OEM ones on the downpipe studs, but that's about it.
