Mazda FD Throttle Position Sensor Discontinued - Options?

Hey all,

Previous owner buggered up my TPS ... the new ones are Disco'd or vastly overpriced and used ones arent plentiful or trustworthy.

Has anybody found options for other manufacturers that make a substitute?

Just buy a used one. They are not something that break often.

Part number N3A1-18-911 looks like you can get it from Amayama.com for $167. Atkins shows 2 in stock for $550 (!).

Seems like you should be able to find one used. I think I've seen them pop up on Ebay as well. May be worth a WTB ad.

Unfortunately they show stock but if you place an order it will be cancelled after a couple of days with a "discontinued" comment.

It's the same for all model years, correct? Hard to believe with all the FD's running around in Japan that Mazda would not support this part.

Have you got in touch with Raw Crowe? If nothing else he will at least be able to confirm the zero stock.

I understand the desire to purchase new but if you post a WTB in the 3rd gen section you will get about 100 people offering used ones to you for pennies. I probably have 8-10 in storage at the moment. They dont fail often. They are usually set incorrectly or the connector/wiring going to the TPS is damaged.

There were what, like 50,000 FD's made in 10 years? Less than 100k for sure. That's one month of F150 production. The supplier probably didn't want to support it anymore after the tooling reached end of life. Remember, you haven't been able to buy a car with a cable throttle for over 10 years.

Except for Atkin$, if any of the US dealers can actually supply a part I would be surprised. Don't know about the Singapore one. There is/was an ebay seller with a "white box" TPS, but I am a little leery of aftermarket sensors.

All true, usually the Japanese OEM's take better care of their domestic customers than they do with their overseas market customers.

Won't work too well with a stock computer looking for wide and narrow band values, but if running some aftermarket ECUs, it's easy enough to mount a plate to the stock TB and fit a more common - and cheaper - 3 wire TPS. I expect half of them are rooted when gearbox or engine out work occurs and weight is put on them.

Has anyone purchased these parts and confirmed that they work?

I tried ordering an OEM TPS from Amayama awhile back, and the order was accepted at first then cancelled a few days later due to lack of inventory. So I am not sure we can say that they are still available as OEM - except perhaps from 3rd-party sellers like Atkins that may have a few left for double the retail price.

The Beck-Arnley part number seems to actually be available on Amazon for a pretty low price, but on the B-A site there is a comment that this p/n is for automatic trans. I have not checked the parts book to see if there is any difference between MT and AT. If it fits, then that could be a good find.

its complicated, but no. the demand we have for FD parts is so small, that we hardly have the basic stuff.

Beck Arnley is a reboxer, so they do not make anything. part in the box is likely to be the real ND part.

BWD and standard make stuff, so probably not genuine.

Those are and have been out of stock for almost a year brother. I am in need of a new TPS myself, and Atkins used to have two at $550 a piece but have since sold out weeks ago. Even Mazda in Japan can't get them and that seems odd to me.
