This (click here) is a good tool for you to read through along with all the info in the sticky located in the top of the 3rd Gen forum.

It is near impossible to accurately predict what a car is worth without seeing/driving/inspecting it in person. Not to mention you have provided very little information on the car. Year, package (R1/2, touring, base), modifications, pictures tell a 1,000 words, etc... The more complete you are, the more we may help you.

Also, I will note that anytime someone purchases a new RX7 most all of us will recommend you do the following: change oil/filter, coolant, tranny/diff fluid, replace spark plugs and wires, air filter, fuel filter and most definately have the engine compression tested before you hand over any cash. This is just a few hundred extra dollars you need to think about right off the bat.

You should ask to see the paperwork on the rebuild to start with. No excuses.

Research, before you dive into this stuff make sure you have half a clue. People here are great but can get fed up if you make a new thread every day asking about something.

Post some pics up, is it RHD or LHD?

There is two really that I am looking at the first one I was talking about is 1993 Red touring with 93,000 miles on it asking $12,500. The motor was rebuilt at 70,319 miles and turbos no mods on the car has paper work on the motor. Both of the RX-7 I have found where on Auto trader the other RX-7 is 1994 Silver touring with 117,000 on the the body new motor put in 22,000 miles ago has 2 year Warranty on the motor and trans. The mods are R1 SPOILERS ALL AROUND, TIEN SPORT SPRINGS,18" wheels, upgraded alpine head unit this car is at a car dealership in Greensboro called ES Motorsports, Inc they want $14,000 for that one, does anyone know anything about them they said that they are Mazda RX-7 Allocator. I do not have pics that I got my self because I have not seen them in person yet but auto traders was pics of both. Thank you all for giving me some great info on all of this.

Wow, some of these Autotrader prices are outrageous. I see cars still for sale since June, when I was looking at purchasing another FD.

I dealt with ES Motorsports briefly during that time. They seemed to have a lot of clean looking cars. And they gave as much info as they could on them. My dealing with them was mainly through email, so I'm sure you can get all the info you need face to face.

I ended up purchasing an FD from a forum member. There are lots to choose from and people on here seem a bit more realistic on pricing.

do not rule out a car that is far away. I know it is a pain in the ***, but a lot of times it can be very well worth it. I actually purchased my FD from North Carolina and just drove it back to OK. If it is too far to drive it home, cross-country car shipping is usually no more than $500. The only other cost is the plane ticket out to go check it out. If you limit yourself to cars that are only close by then you may end up paying more that it is worth or settlling. Or maybe you will find something great, it is always a crapshoot. At least on here you can get a good idea of the history of the car. Search posts and questions from years past by the owner, ect.

Both of those cars seem O.K. The '93 may be a bit nicer just by the sound of it but without pics or seeing the car in person it is hard to tell. It is also a little better priced, still a bit high IMO. The '94 at the dealership is WAAAAY overpriced.

I actually just bought that vehicle and it will be shipped to me on Tues at the latest. They are a shipping company as well so they hooked me up with shipping. Only $200 to my door from NC
I will get pics as soon as I get tint put on next week

The red 93 Touring sounds and looks like a good car. Looks taken care of and in great shape. Read the Buying Tips in the FAQ link Mahjik posted and go take a look at it. If the motor and turbos are fresh and in as good shape as the body and interiof, that is a great price.

It also looks like it has been lowered.

Don't forget a carfax. Walk away if its salvage title.

Hey Josh,

Check this out man. If your smart you will heed my warning and you will turn away very quickly. This place called ES motorsports. I bought my Rx-7 from them last year in November. Got it for 12,500 with 88K miles and a "rebuild" which it turned out was false. I dont even want to go into everything that has been wrong with the car since. But so you know im not full of ****, The guys name is Ace, he sells high end cars like m3's, acura nsx's, rx7's, supras and what not. Almost all of his cars where or are total pieces of ****. He gives you a warranty on some yah. I got one on mine 3 years 36K miles. Then guess what, the warranty company doesnt back any of it. Its a complete bullshit business that should be put out of business. To be honest I wish this guy Ace would slip and fall on a pair of scissors and cut his throat. Hes a piece of **** and buying my car from him was the worst mistake I have made so far. I have spent over 1,500 in repairs in less than a year. My engines compression is bad, tranny is about shot, and turbos started to smoke. I fucked up, so please I beg you. Dont even think of getting a car from there.

For what it's worth, I read some pretty bad stuff concerning ES Motorsports and "Ace"on one of the M3 forums not too long ago. All it takes is a search on google or what not for that business if I remember correctly...

No this place was dirty, my interior looked to be in good shape because the seats looked brand new, come to find out later they I guess paint the seats with some sort of leather **** that is suppose to be used to touch up on rougher areas but instead they covere the entire seats. The paint looked brand new. 6 Months later sever oxidation, bubling in the paint. Less than 3 weeks after getting the car, odometer goes out, sun roof quits working, tranny starts to slip. Engine started to leak oil at 500 miles, smoking at 800 miles, brake pads all had to be replaced less than 100 miles after I bought the car. All fluids where old. I took the car into mazda to get a tune up, they looked the car over and said with everything that was bad on it, It would cost more to fix the car than it was worth. I was pretty pissed. But all this was my fault for not learning the ins and outs of the rx7. All that being said I still love the car, it needs work now but its coming along very nicely.

I just bought the SSM that they are talkin about a few posts up... I have talked to Ace and the others there and alls I can say is your buying a used car man. These cars are 15 years old now. Things are going to start to break eventually. You can't blame the guys that sell you the car. Like they know when the paint is going to mess especially if it is factory? Or the odometer or sunroof stop workin? Is it shitty that it happened without a doubt but how can you really blame them for that when a car is this old?!? That being said I will be pissed if I get my car and things start to fall apart, but i'm not gonna blame the company.

Good on you a68birdls1, but I have actually been to there shop, and I was extremely stupid and wanted a rx so bad I couldnt say no. I would change my decision in a heartbeat now if I could. They are a very shady place. Maybe you should google the name a couple times and see what it returns. Alot of people on the beamer forums are out for this dudes nuts. I can say he seemed extremely nice, but its all a scam. Dude runs a shady business. Btw, the paint wasnt the original, there was overspray in alot of areas I noticed when I was cleaning it. I understand the car is 15 years old but I have seen my fare share of FD's and none of them had heat rotted plastics on the interior like mine. After removing my dash Im also convinced the car has seen some good amount of water. The steering column and some of my internals under the dash are rusted. That isnt normal. Just be careful with this guy. He doesnt return phone calls, emails or any of that after you purchase a car from him.

Sorry to bump an old-ish thread, but I'm glad I came across this. I'm looking for a FD and when using Auto-Trader and Cars.com you find quite a few cars at ES motorsports (6, IIRC). They all appear to be decently clean and cared for for. Apparently looks can be deceiving.

I've been browsing this forum for years (fascinated by rotaries and am finally able to get one) and have read about what to look for in a used car, things to check on, etc. It's impossible to know what you're getting from a dealer. They usually don't have records and are not going to tell you the downsides of a car they're trying to sell.

it's not impossible if you take your time and look the car over good (or have someone that is a rotary person look it over). do a compression check - period. they also should give you a carfax report.

I think it's actually easier to know what you're getting from a dealer.
